Ms. Pauline JoAnn White

Ms. Pauline JoAnn (Holbert) White was born June 5, 1933 in Shelbyville, Tennessee, the daughter of Mattie V. (Holbert) Wells. She departed this life on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Ms. White loved the Lord, her church and family. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Saginaw, MI. Pauline was a former member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Shelbyville, TN. She believed all things are possible through the power of prayer; she was constantly in prayer for friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren. Giving was a constant part of her life and she put others before herself. She was a blessing to many by sharing her advice, her wisdom and financial support. She enjoyed helping and doing for others. Pauline was a good singer, she frequently would sing one of many gospel or spiritual songs she’d learned as a child at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She also enjoyed secular and blues tunes, two of her favorite artists were Prince (When Doves Cry, Purple Rain) and Spencer Wiggins (Old Friend). She was affiliated with the Eastern Star of Dayton, OH. Pauline worked as a surgical aid at a young age at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, OH. She also worked as Head Cook, a Home Health Care Aide, and an entrepreneur of an Adult Foster Care Facility for many years. She provided loving care for her mother throughout her life. She had a great work ethic, and was a dedicated and faithful worshipper until her health failed. Ms. White leaves four children to cherish many memories, Lawrence V. Wells, Paulette (Adedji, Henry) Awosafaju, Denise Murphy and Dennis (Mitzi) Sanders; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mark Avery Wells and David Allen Wells. “Blood makes you a relative it doesn’t necessarily make you family”. She also leaves sisters in Christ, Novola McClendon, Kathy (Dave) Berry and Dee Dudley; adopted family, sisters, Mattie Hill and JoAnn Wilcox; daughters, Brenda Davis Sherley, Stephanie Hall, Delores Henry and Linda Comstock; sons, Calvin White and Dr. Gary Brooks; grandkids, Nikki Brewer, Chenntel Henry and Shirley Rose Caffey; many other relatives and friends including special friend, Mary Gilmore. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Avenue, Dayton, OH 45416. Eulogist Lawrence Wells with interment at Woodland Historic Cemetery, Arboretum & Foundation, 118 Woodland Ave., Dayton, OH 45409. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Memorial service will take place Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 1415 North Center Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603 Mr. David Barry will officiate.
