Mrs. Pearlie Brown Johnson

Pearlie B. Montgomery was born on July 14, 1939 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of 86 years, on Monday, February 2, 2026 with her family at her bedside. She was the seventh child of Leonard and Lucille Montgomery. Pearlie received her early education from the Clarksdale Public School System. She was a longtime member of St. James Temple Church of God In Christ. Pearlie married James A. Brown in Memphis, Tennessee and together they shared eight children. In the early 70’s Pearlie relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, where she worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant for many years. She earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Delta College and later pursued a Social Work Degree from Saginaw Valley State University. Pearlie was actively involved at New Fellowship Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent B.E. Price where she was a Sunday school teacher and a youth worker. She later joined Greater Williams Temple Church of God in Christ where she served in several capacities under the leadership of Bishop H.J. Williams. Mrs. Johnson loved being involved in social and political activism-lending her hand wherever it was needed. Her favorite past-times were enjoying outings with her sisters and family, reading, shopping and traveling. Pearlie’s life changed forever when her youngest son endured a disabling accident at the young age of 18 and she became his primary caretaker for the next 35 years. She later joined World Outreach Campus under the leadership of Bishop Hurley J. Coleman, Jr. where she was a faithful member until her health began to decline. She retired from the Saginaw Public School System as a paraprofessional in her later years. Mrs. Johnson leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Linda (Eugene) Reid, Bridgett (Hubert) Price, Toni (James) Brooks all of Saginaw, MI and Leslie (Jody) Nunn of Grand Rapids, MI; 16 grandchildren, Ricky, Jermaine, LaShon (Michael) Kesha, LaTesha, Jerome, Torre, Perez, LaShonte (Justin), LaTaija, Jasmine, Taylor, Mykel, Briana, Jada and Sidney; 41 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish many memories, one sister, Ernestine Martin; one brother, Leonard (Mildred) Montgomery both of Saginaw, MI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Lucille Montgomery; her husband, Carl Johnson; her sons, James D. Brown and Duane Brown; her brothers, James and Robert Young, David Young, Sr. and Clarence Montgomery; her sisters, Sarah Huell, Lucille Smith, Rosie Price, Addie Gooden, Thelma Adams and Lizzie Brumfield. Family hour will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2026 at World Outreach Campus, 2405 Bay Rd., Saginaw, MI 48602 with the funeral service commencing at 12:00 p.m. Bishop Hurley J. Coleman, Jr., Pastor and Bishop Melvin J. Smith, officiate. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 N. Center Rd., Saginaw, MIchigan 48638. Visitation will take place on Thursday, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
