Mrs. Pearline Catherine Summers

Mrs. Pearline Summers passed away at Covenant Hospital Thursday, June 1, 2023 after a lengthy illness. She was born to Lorenzo and Ethel (White) Williams on April 30, 1941 in Forest City, Arkansas. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958 and then moved to Saginaw, Michigan. Pearline married Perry Summers on November 18, 1961. She was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board for several years. She attended Saginaw Valley State College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Pearline started working as a Teacher ‘s Aide and substitute teacher. Her teaching career began in 1979 as an Elementary Special Education Teacher with Saginaw Public Schools. During her career, she continued her education by attending Central Michigan University and earned an E.I. Certification in 1984. Being a longtime educator, she made the decision to retire from Saginaw Public Schools with 34 years of loyal service. She shared her gifts as an educator at several schools including, Salina, Edith Ballie, Longstreet and Central Middle. Pearline always enjoyed teaching, cooking, sewing, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pearline was a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She will be remembered for her compassionate and giving spirit. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Steven Summers, Sr., Columbus, OH; one daughter, Michelle Summers, Saginaw, MI; five grandchildren, Steven, Jr., and Xeryus Summers, both of Coumbus, OH, Aaliyah Jeter, Grand Rapids, MI, Madison and Morgan Summers both of Saginaw, MI; great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Adele, Javion and Adonis; also, her favorite nephew, Tony Farr who was more like her second son along with other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mrs. Pearline Summers was preceded in death by her loving husband, Perry in 2002; her daughter, Mercedia Summers; two sisters, Verlia Mae Farr and Alma Nettles; two brothers, Plummer and Walter Williams; a daughter-in-law, Tracy Summers and special aunt, Elixa Morgan. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Lafayette Simpson will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Wednesday, from 2:00 until 6:00 PM. Gamma Psi Sigma Chapter, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will conduct a service during a 5:00 - 6:00 P.M. family hour.
