Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the World Outreach Campus, 2405 Bay Road. Supt. Hurley J. Coleman, Jr., Host Pastor. Bishop Samuel Duncan, Jr. will officiate with interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Greater All Nation Prayer Tower C.O.G.I.C., 608 S. 20th Street, on Friday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother went home to be with her Heavenly father on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the age of 60 years. Portia Maxine Chandler Bishop was born March 15, 1952 to the late Superintendent Julius Chandler & Doris Polk Chandler of Eden, Maryland. Portia graduated from James M. Bennett Senior High School. She was a seamstress and very athletic in school. Evangelist Portia Maxine Bishop hailed from the state of Maryland and received early Christian education under Bishop James L. Eure, Eastern Shore, Maryland and Bishop LT Blackshear, Delaware. She resided in Saginaw, MI for the last eight years. She was married to Superintendent Louis Bishop, Pastor of Greater All Nations Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ. She was an anointed woman of God who loved the Lord and his people. She served and held many positions in the church including: Church Secretary, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, District Chairlady of the Sunday School, State President of the Purity Class, a member of the State Choir, State Voice of Hospitality, and District Missionary. Also, Evangelist Bishop worked with the National Ministers Wives with Mother Sarah Butler. Evangelist Bishop's purpose in life was to be that shining light that would cause others to want to be saved. Her goal was to reach the lost at any cost. Evangelist Bishop's aim was always to put God first and let him direct her path. Her endeavor was to please God in every way, reaching out to others making a difference in someone's life. Evangelist Bishop's favorite scripture was Psalm 34:1: "I will bless the Lord at all times and His praise shall continually be in my mouth." Evangelist Bishop's favorite song was "I Won't Complain". Evangelist Bishop leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband, Superintendent Louis Bishop; her loving daughter, Alethea "Cookie" Nichols; two grandchildren, George "MJ" Copeland and Joi Nichols; five loving siblings, Jeffrey Polk (Rachel), Julius Chandler Jr. (Althea) of Eden, MD; Paulette Walters of Saginaw, MI, Grady Chandler of Delmarva, Delaware, and Mark Chandler of Baltimore, MD; three uncles, Uncle Calvin Polk (Mildred aka Aunt Tinge), Uncle Boyd Polk, and Uncle Roger Polk (Elaine); one aunt, Aunt Iva Brooken and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and Godchildren.
