Ms. Queen Esther Herndon

Loving mother, sister and grandmother passed away on January 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw at the age of 83 years. Queen Esther was born on May 15, 1934 in Perkins, Oklahoma to William and Alberta Ivey. She was a proud graduate of Saginaw High School after which she immediately joined the United States Air Force where she served at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. During her time served she traveled to England and Germany. She also was selected to teach six weeks of nutrition courses at Delta College. Ms. Herndon was employed as a caseworker for the State of Michigan Department of Social Services and retired after 25 years of service. She became a resident at New Hope Valley Independent Retirement Community where she enjoyed bingo, especially winning. Queen enjoyed painting, exercising and watching basketball. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. Ms. Herndon leaves to cherish loving memories, two daughters, Deborah Guerrero and Yvonne Herndon; one son, Michael (Mighty Mike) Herndon; one brother, Larry Ivey; grandchildren, Dorinda (Meek) Garcia, Fort Wayne, IN, Quincy and Anthony Guerrero, Natalie, Detroit, MI, Carmichael Herndon, Grand Rapids, MI, Jada Herndon; two nieces, LaTina Ivey-Blacknall (Rodney), Pontiac, MI, Harriet Patilia, Bay City, MI; four nephews, Greg and Eddy Coburn, Detroit, MI, Terry and Keith Coburn, Bay City, MI; one great-nephew, Jimmy Baber, Jr; sister-in-law, Queen Ivey, Pontiac, MI; son-in-law, Alfonso Guerrero, Memphis, TN; cousin, Ruby Robinson; many great and great-great grandchildren, including a dear friend she met at New Hope Valley, Rose; a special friend, Sophia and other friends, Shirley Norman, Shirley Caviness and Cynthia Jones (Cheekie Cheek). She was preceded in death by her parents, William Ivey II and Alberta (Westbeat) Ivey; sons, Anthony, Howard and Rodney Herndon; Brothers, Jack Coburn and William Ivey III; niece, Vicki Baber. The family gives thanks to St. Marys’ of Michigan ICU and 5 South, Right at Home-Kontonio, Rose, Beyonka and all the rest. Fresenius Medical Care and Avista Rehab. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442.
