Mr. Raymond "Poone" Linzy Ellison, Jr.

Mr. Raymond Linzy Ellison, Jr. “Poone” God said, “You fought a good fight, now come with me it’s time to rest” on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the age of 62 years. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and brother. Raymond was born to Raymond and Hazel Ellison, Sr. on September 9, 1957 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was married to the love of his life, Kimberly R. Mitchell Ellison for 33 years. She survives him. Mr. Ellison was a “Proud Knight”, graduating in 1975 from Buena Vista High School. Moving to Detroit, Michigan after graduation to go to Barber College where he worked at Dexter Barber Show owned by his Uncle “TJ”, Thomas J. Fentress. From there he worked at Glenn’s Barber Shop. Then in 1986 he opened Celebrity Barber Shop on Schoolcraft where after many years he was nicked named “The Mayor of Schoolcraft” Ray was a legacy, he cut generations of hair. “Poone” loved music, cooking and entertaining. He always had to be the one to start a soul train line. He always spearheaded the BV Class Reunion with style. He loved to shop whether it was clothes or food. You could always get a meal at his house. His special holiday was Thanksgiving, out of 33 years he only missed one celebration, and on any Thanksgiving Day you would see 100 or more people come thru his home. He never met a stranger and he loved to smile. Surviving besides his wife, Kimberly is one son, Blair Linzy Ellison, Southfield, MI and one daughter, Tanisha (Derek) Bowman, Thomaston, GA; two grandkids, Attorney Sabrina Zelner and Kendarius Traylor; one great-grandson, Levi Whitfield. “Poone” is also survived by four sisters, Bertha (Jessie) McGee, Gwenda (Larry) Conway, Yvonne (Danny) Cabine, all of Saginaw, MI and Sharon Roberson, Woodstock, GA; two brothers, Tommie (Davanise) Ellison, Saginaw, MI and Hugh Jennings, Glennwood, IL; father-in-law, AD Mitchell, Detroit, MI; nine brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law: many other relatives and friends, too many to name. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Hazel Ellison, Sr.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Fentress and Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Ellison; one brother, Murray Ellison; mother-in-law, Clara Mitchell. Celebrations of Life Memorial Service will take place at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from 3:30 until 6:30 p.m. Buena Vista Classmates and friends are invited to bring balloons of blue and white to share in a "Celebration of life Balloon Lift" at 6:30 p.m.
