Mrs. Rebecca Harvey

Mrs. Rebecca N. “Reatha Mae” Harvey as she was affectionate called, was born on September 14, 1934 in Eupora, Mississippi the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Lee and Lula Mae Shaw. She passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the age of 89 years. She attended school in the Webster County District in the City of Eupora. She relocated to Saginaw, Michigan in 1952 when the love of her life, Carl Harvey moved her and came to claim his bride. Reatha and Carl were married on December 24, 1952. Had they both lived until December 24, of this year, they would have celebrated 71 years of marriage. As residents of Saginaw, Reatha Mae and Carl joined New Christ Community Church under the leadership of Reverend William D. Aldridge, now pastored by Dr. Eugene Seals. Reatha worked 30 years at the former Maccabee Gardens. She took pride in whatever her job called for and never missed a day unless there was an emergency. Reatha’s hobbies were playing cards, and cooking two famous cakes for her family. She baked delicious Sock-It-To-Me and Philadelphia Cream Cheese Cakes. She was also known to fix a mean dish of Macaroni and Cheese. Reatha leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Alan (Susie Reynolds) Harvey of Saginaw, MI, Charlie Harvey and Ray (Christine) Harvey, both of Bay City, MI; seven grandchildren; 13, great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; daughters-in-law, Connie Harvey of Saginaw; two special nephews, Louis O. Harvey, Jr. of Saginaw, and James Richard Shaw of Eupora, MS; two nieces, Joe Ann Shaw of Toledo, OH and Dorothy Jean Shaw; two sisters-in-law, Mary L. Harvey and Rosie Stovall, both of Saginaw; brother-in-law, Jimmy Harvey of Kalamazoo, MI; there are so many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved there are too many to mention. Reatha who was the baby of the family, was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Harvey; one son, William Harvey; parents, Eddie Lee and Lula Mae Shaw; all of her siblings; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Walter and Louis O. Harvey, Sr. and Henry Harvey; three sisters-in-law, Mattie Harvey, Rev. Willie Mae Harvey and Caroline Lee; other sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at New Christ Community Church, 3302 Grant Street, Saginaw, MI, 48601. Asst. Pastor Joyce Seals will officiate. Interment will take place Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday, from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
