Rev. Mason,

"When you hear about my Homegoing, don't worry about me. I'm just another soldier on my way home." Family hour will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008 with the Homegoing Service commencing at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 1111 N. 29th St., Rev. Willie Hill, Jr. Pastor. Rev. Columbus Clayton will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue. Reverend Preston Mason, Sr. was born, January 26, 1910 in Pulaski, TN, the fourth of five children born to Robert and Mattie Mason. He answered God?s call to come home as he slept away on February 19, 2008. Rev. Mason married Frances Reedus on December 25, 1928 in Elkton, TN. She preceded him in death. They shared 75 wonderful years together. To this union seven children were born. They later moved to Saginaw, MI in 1943 where he found work at Chevrolet Grey Iron Foundry-GM, retiring after 25 years of service. He was a member of UAW local #668. Reverend Mason was a faithful Associate Pastor of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church for 47 years and he served as Chaplain of the Usher Board under the leadership of Rev. Audrain King, Sr. (now under the leadership of Rev. Willie R. Hill, Jr.) until his health failed him. Everyone that knew Rev. Mason knew that he always loved to discuss the Bible and wanted everyone to know about Jesus Christ and to be saved. He will be sadly missed but always remembered by his family and friends. Rev. Mason leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters and four sons, Myrine Morris, Carol (Troy) Mason, Robert (Sandra) Mason and Preston, Jr. (Gloria) Mason, all of Saginaw, MI, Elder Edward Mason of Grand Rapids, MI and Dr. William (Alice) Swanson of Ellicott City, MD; 23 grandchildren, Rosemary Glass, Sharon (Matthew) Green, Stephanie King, Adrienne Mason, Nathaniel Morris, Jr., Kurkie Morris, Derrick (Carol) Mason, Dale Mason, Robert (Patricia) Mason, Jr., all of Saginaw, MI, Denise Fordham Harris, Roy Fordham, Jr., Steven Fordham, Miles Fordham of Flint, MI, Delphine Kitchen, Rev. Michael (Patricia) Morris of Richmond, VA, Trina L. Mason of Detroit, MI, Reasia Burse of Memphis, TN, Louise Jackson of Kentwood, MI, Danielle Mason (Barbie) of Shreveport, LA, Darryle (Angie) Mason of Alexandria, VA, Justin Swanson of Landover, MA, Anthony Swanson of Temple, TX, Dalvaccia Green of Saginaw, MI ; 31 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He leaves many other relatives and friends, including friends that he adopted into the Mason family, Deacon James Dulaney, Rev. Columbus Clayton and Deacon Willie (Carrie) Whitley; special friends, Deacon Eva Watkins, Deacon Clinton Hollis and Deacon Earon Robinson. Reverend Mason was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mattie Mason; daughter, Mattie Fordham; granddaughter, Tammy Mason; grandson, Anthony Morris; great-grandson, Druce Walker; son-in-law, Nathan Morris; one sister and three brothers. The family would like to express special thanks to Metron of Forest Hills Nursing Home and Staff, Dr. Gary Brooks and to Dorothy Gaines and Family. The family will greet relatives and friends at the home of his daughter, Myrine Morris.
