Robert Thomas

Beloved father, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend was called to the loving arms of our Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the age of 71, following a lengthy illness. Robert J. Thomas was born on December 17, 1940, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Pearlie and Cora Nell Blackburn Thomas. Robert was a member of Glimpse of Hope Ministries. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge. He was an entrepreneur whose desire was to create jobs for youth within the Saginaw community. He was a retiree from General Motors, and attended Saginaw High School and Delta College. He leaves to cherish his memory his only son, Stacy Andre Hawkins; brothers, John (Lillian) Thomas Sr. and Marshall (Yvonne) Thomas; sister, Julia Pringle. Also surviving his memory are a number of nieces and nephews as well as special nieces, Gwendolyn Bond of Kansas City, MO and Lacrecia Bell, special nephews, James Woods Sr., Sherman Bell Jr., Tory Thomas, and Darryl (Marcia) Thomas; special cousin, Terry (Carolyn) Pruitt; Godchildren, Ozzie Smith and Travis Maggart, aunts, Mecky Lewis and Valeria (Arthur) Dixon of Tuscaloosa, AL, Eura Lee (John) Pruitt of Lansing, MI and Martha McBrayer of Saginaw, MI; one uncle, Ed (Marie) Blackburn of Tuscaloosa, AL; and special friends, Archie Dale, William Martin, James Jones, Johnnie Fifer, Tyrone Bryant, and Jake McNair. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Pearlie and Cora Nell Blackburn Thomas; three sisters, Theresa Bell, Ruth Cheatum, and Betty Chapman; and two brothers, Horace Thomas Sr. and Willie Reed. The Thomas family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to Dr.’s Eugene Seals and Delicia Pruitt, as well as their medical staff. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Freedom Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2259 Williamson Road. Rev. Eddie Bragg, Pastor. Pastor Leslie Lewis will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Browne's Mortuary, 441 North Jefferson Ave., on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. for the family hour.
