Deacon Robert C. Veasley, Jr.

God saw fit to call another one of His Soldiers home. Deacon Robert C. Veasley, Jr. departed this earthly home on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the age of 71 years. An only child, Robert was affectionately known as “C Boy”, “Bobby” and “Blue”. Mr. Veasley graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1967. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received his Honorable Discharge. He started work for General Motors Nodular and Grey Iron Foundries. He retired in 1990. “Bobby” was an active U.A.W. retiree, served as past Vice-President and currently held the position of Sergeant at Arms for Local Union 668 Retirees and Area 5. After retirement, Mr. Veasley joined the team of Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home and was a proud employee. He worked until he was no longer able. His passions included traveling, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grand, watching westerns, sitting in his garage and scoping the block. He loved attending his U.A.W. Retiree meetings and visiting Black Lake. He was baptized at an early age at Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Roosevelt Austin, Sr., he later became deacon under the leadership of Pastor Rodrick A. Smith. He served as past Chairman of the Deacon Board for three years of which he was very proud. He also served on the Caring Hands Committee, Greeters Committee, Baptist Laymen, Male Chorus, Christmas Breakfast Committee, and wherever he was needed until his health declined. Mr. Veasley was preceded in death by his parents, RC Veasley and Ruth Scott. To cherish precious memories he leaves his loving, caring and devoted wife, Linda A. Veasley; daughters. Marquita Ponder, Brandi (Quincy) Hayes; one son, Byron Holiday; five grandchildren, Amarus Green, Solathian (Arlesia Thomas) Holiday, Quintaja, Gabrielle, and Quincy Hayes, Jr.; great-grands, Solathian Holiday, Jr. and newborn Adrien James Holiday that he was looking forward to meet, but God had other plans. He also leaves two bonus daughters, Sonandra and Shasta Mounger; sister-in-law, Claudette (Cleo) Bray; brother-in-law, Gary (Elsa) McClain; aunt, Connie Veasley; special cousins who were dear to his heart, Thomas Darby, Debra Dunn Williams, Cheryl (Ricky) Nash, Hope, Cindy, Jon, Beemon, Tim, Mike and David Veasley, Jr. and Denish Haley; special friends, Jimmy Moore, John Weaver, Tommy Phillips, Robert McNair and Minister Robert Wingard, Pastor Rodrick A. Smith and the Zion Missionary Baptist Church family. He also leaves Theotis (Teresa) Wilcoxon, Deborah Williams and family, and the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood Association. The family extends special thanks to St. Mary’s 7th floor and ICU, Buena Vista Township Emergency Team and First Responders. We would also like to express a special thanks to Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home for their service. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. A private service will be held. Pastor Rodrick A. Smith will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442.
