Mrs. Roberta Black

Mrs. Roberta (Head) Black was born in Birmingham, Alabama on June 17, 1920 the daughter of Lincoln and Amanda (Jones) Head. She passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the blessed age of 98 years. Mrs. Black was a longtime resident of Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from nursing school she gained employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse at University of Birmingham Hospital until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Birmingham where she was the wife of Trustee Horace Black, he preceded her in death. Dedicated to her church, she was signer of the benevolent finance checks, Director of the Senior Citizen Center, Director of the Food Bank, worked in many other areas of the church as well as being a renowned soloist in the choir. She had a special love and bond with her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, knitting, making quilts, working in her garden and flowers. To cherish many precious memories she leaves her loving and devoted daughter, Rosetta (Rev. Clovis) Screws, Sr., Saginaw, MI; three grandchildren, Dr. Clovis (Jennifer) Screws, Jr., West Bloomfield, MI, Rev. Gregory (Monique) Screws, Cincinnati, OH and Ms. Brenda D. Screws, Westchester, OH; five great-grandchildren, Elisia J. Screws, Westchester, OH, Dr. Ashley L. Screws, Grand Rapids, MI, Gregory Screws, II, Cincinnati, OH, Mallory Screws, Baltimore, MD and Kenneth Rogers, III, West Bloomfield, MI; two special nieces, Patricia (Ronald) Fenn, Kissimmee, FL and Linda (Robert) Pouncy, Detroit, MI; two special nephews, Alphonzo and Robert Williams, both of Detroit, MI; a special great-niece, Nicole Fenn, Kissimmee, FL; one sister-in-law, Willie Mae Ellis, Los Angeles, CA, many other relatives and friends including special friends, Georgia Frazier, Ruth Kelly, Deacon and Mrs. Page and Olivia Johnson. Mrs. Black was also preceded in death by her parents, Lincoln and Amanda Head; siblings, Carrie White, Vivian Williams and several brothers. The family would like to express special thanks to Hoyt Nursing and Rehab and to Mrs. Black’s special loving care givers, Earvine and Charlie Watkins, Darrel Frazier and Bonnie Mitchell. The family will be present from 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 120 North 15th Street, Saginaw, MI 48601 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Vincent McMillon will officiate. Visitation 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Funeral service in Birmingham, AL will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church, 9000 17th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35206. Pastor Louis Gilbert will officiate with interment in Zion Memorial Gardens, 501 Tarrant Huffman Road, Birmingham, AL 35206.
