Mr. Roderick Dewayne Barnes, Sr.

Mr. Roderick “Floyd” Dewayne Barnes, Sr. affectionately known as DeWayne was born June 8, 1969 in Saginaw, Michigan to Earlene and Melvin Barnes, Sr.. He passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024 after a brief illness at the age of 55 years. Dewayne was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a graduate of Saginaw High School “Class of 88”. Dewayne received his Carpentry Certification from the Job Corps Program. He was self-employed doing painting, minor construction/renovation jobs as well as providing lawncare services. Dewayne enjoyed fishing, playing dominos, having his morning coffee, eating chicken, and spending time with family. He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Roderick Barnes, Jr.; one grandchild, Ky’Aire Barnes; his mother, Earlene Barnes; one sister, Sherry (Kenny) McFadden, Saginaw; bonus sisters, Dana, Yolanda and Merry Christmas; one brother, Melvin (Evelyn) Barnes, Saginaw; bonus brothers, Richard Smith III, Saginaw, Isaac Christmas, Jr., Mark (Beatrice) Christmas; eight aunts, Gloria Thomas, Rosie Lee Ransom, Angela (Wayne) Robbins, Norella Barnes, Theresa Jackson, Joyce Barnes, Ettienne (Tyrone) Walker and Sheila Chapman; four uncles, Richard (Sharon) Smith, Ray Carl (Lisa) Smith, Milton (Lyn) Barnes, Derle Barnes and Mark (Mary) Barnes; nieces, Monique (Pride) McNair, Carolyn, Sha’Toria, Jasmine, My’Eshia, Ke’Aundra Barnes and Breana McAffee; nephews, DaVonte’ Barnes, Johnathon McAffee and De’Angelo Whittington; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Darlean Donald, Stanley Quinn, Zebedee Love, Jr., Freddie Simpson, Henton Jackson, Jr., Darrell Sheffield, Shanell Castell, the Hood and Castell families. Mr. Roderick Dewayne Barnes, Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Barnes, Sr.; sister, Dwana Barnes; grandparents, Richard and Juanita Smith, Elder William and Willie Mae Barnes; bonus dad, Isaac Christmas, Sr.; aunts, Catherine Granison-Peoples and Carolyn Smith; uncles, Lawrence Smith, Oliver Thompson, L.C. “Pete” Peoples and William “Billy” Barnes; cousins, Charles Smith and Toriano Rueda. The family would like to express special thanks to the ICU Unit of Covenant Medical Center-Cooper, to all the pastors and friends that came out to visit and pray and to the staff of Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Greater Williams Temple COGIC, 608 E. Remington St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Supt. Arthur L. Akin, Sr, Host and Supt. Darrick Granison will officiate. Interment will take place in Forest lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place on Friday at the funeral home from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
