Mr. Ronald Dugan

A storied life has concluded its final earthly chapter; a period to mark the end of an Era. On March 30, 2024, Mr. Ronald “Ronnie D.” Dugan transitioned peacefully in his sleep being freed from the binds of a lengthy illness. For 73 years, he had his way. Ronnie was the third child born to the union of the late Robert “Bobby” Dugan and Rose Marie (Thompson) Dugan (later Smith) in Saginaw, Michigan on May 2, 1950. He dedicated his life to Christ at a young age. He most recently being a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church Saginaw and Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Keith J. Bigelow, Sr. in Flint, MI. Ronnie was a 1968 graduate of Arthur Hill Tech High School where his area of concentration was automotive repair. After high school, he served his country by joining the United States Air Force, and received an Honorable Discharge. He was employed at Dow Chemical for a number of years. Mr. Dugan later explored entrepreneurial endeavors with Dugan’s Moving and Transport Service and We Do Services ( a cleaning and moving service). He was a Senior Operator at the City of Saginaw Waste Water Treatment Plant until he retired in 2011. After retirement, he decided to re-enter the workforce part-time by working at Helping Hands Home Healthcare. He was loved by the staff and his clients. Ronnie loved his Cadillacs and he loved to travel. Most times, the two were one. If there was a road there, he’d go there with his pistol in arm’s reach. His longtime membership in the Elks IBPOEW Lodge #674 provided many opportunities for travel and fellowship. Ronnie was a community change agent whose focus was the youth. If you came in contact with him, you walked away better. He also built barrel barbecue grills and picnic tables. “Ronnie D” enjoyed bowling, skating, and shooting pool. He was a man of many talents. Ronnie’s legacy is cemented. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Rosemary Dugan “Sweet Tweet” (who served as his caregiver), Saginaw, LaTonya (Robert) Pounds, of Georgia and Romar (Audra) Johnson, Saginaw; seven grandchildren, De’Ronnie Sparks (who served as his caregiver and was affectionately called “Railhead” by his PaPa), Danyelle Roberts, AlyxZander Jiles, La’Paris Roberts, Leaundria Terry, Keenan Liggins and Amari Liggins; several great-grands; one sister, Bobbie Reynolds, Saginaw; two brothers, Keith Dugan, Saginaw and Jeffrey Smith of Texas; one brother-in-law, Goldstein Caffey, Jr., Saginaw; aunts, Mildred Landrum, Detroit, MI and Saundra Stewart of Florida; a host of nieces, including special nieces, Tenniele Caffey and Lakeithia Warren; nephews, including special nephews, Jason Pearson and Darryl (Soyini) Lewis; cousins and friends. Ronnie was Dugan-Aloms-Wafer-Hatfield-Morrison-Woods-Ray-Shipman strong! He was known as “Papa Ronnie” or “Pops” to the number of children that he had a hand in raising, , including his god-daughters, Conetta Lawrence and Jamie (Jason) Jones. Mr. Ronnie Dugan was preceded in death by his grandson, Maurice Williams; great-grandson, Amori Shamir Royal; parents, Robert “Bobby” and Rose Marie Dugan-Smith; two sisters, Lillian Yvonne Mathews and Geraldine Caffey; one brother, Baby Boy Dugan; son by Bond, Shedrick Johnson; and other cherished loved ones. Special thanks to Marshall Bruns for going above and beyond as a home health aide; Byron Hicks, Lorenzo (Ciarra) Sparks, George Redeemer and family, Melba Peterson, Sherell Tyler, Robert Scott, Janice “JB” West, Kim Wright, Reginald Baldwin, Jake Peoples, Kesha Craft, Verena Clark, Shanell Williams, Brandel Price, Jr., Jasmine Flowers, Latisha Brown, Shalana Spellman, Denita Dorsey, Carmelia Burns and family, Charmaine Jackson, Mercedes and Cameron Hunt, Tanesha Taybron, Steve and Mary Willliams, Tunisha McDaniel, Chermese Gibbs and family, Jeff and Kim Bulls, Niesha Whittington, Alger Street neighbors (Delores A. McNair) and all who assisted in the care of Mr. Dugan. Family hour 11:00 AM Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. with funeral service commencing at 12:00PM. Pastor Keith J. Bigelow will officiate. Interment will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery , G4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Visitation will be 9:00AM until the time of service.
