Mr. Ronald "Dunk" Sawyer

Ronald “Dunk “Sawyer was born December 5, 1960, in Birmingham Alabama. He was the seventh child of nine children born to Eddie and Nellie Mae Sawyer. Dunk is honored as a son, father, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. Dunk received his wings to go home with the Lord on Tuesday March 4, 2025. Dunk resided in Saginaw Michigan and was a proud graduate from Buena Vista High School Class of 1980. Dunk received his nick name from his talented skills of playing basketball. He was a member of Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church, the legendary “Saginaw Bucks” Basketball Team. Throughout his life journey he earned some college credits through Delta College and worked various jobs in small local plants. He was very dedicated to creating his own side hustle as a “handyman” for many people. He was NOT a stranger to anyone, especially living in Buena Vista. He was a man of great pride, treated everyone with kindness and never wanted to be involved in family drama, being the “peace maker”. His presence, conversations and laughter will be truly missed, if you knew Dunk, you would know what his favorite sayings were and knew what he meant when he said them such as, “Already ready”, “Fla’va”, “You want to chew on something”. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing pool, horseshoes, dominoes, spades and spending time with his family/friends and living his “BEST” life. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Shileena Henderson of Atlanta, GA, two sisters, Delores Gayles and Joyce Stribling both of Saginaw, MI; one brother, Derrick Sawyer, Sr., of Saginaw MI; one uncle, John (Gloria) Thomas of Newport News, VA; four nieces, Pamela Sawyer, Archia (Otis) Jackson, Jr., Michelle (Douglas) Coleman, Sr, and Shandana Jackson of Saginaw, MI; six nephews, Erwin Sawyer, Eddie Harris, Derrick Sawyer Jr. of Saginaw, MI, Johnny Gayles Jr. of Ann Arbor, MI, Tito McKinney of Sherman Oaks, CA and Germaine Helton of Atlanta, GA, four great-nieces, Chaerra Layton, Arreanna and Raven Sawyer, all of Saginaw, MI and LaTia Jackson of Fort Worth, Texas; five great-nephews, Otis Jackson III, Rayvon and Trayvon Sawyer, Douglas Coleman, Jr. and Christian Coleman all of Saginaw MI; best friends, Janice Hulett, Darryl Pruitt and Fred Crow of Saginaw, MI; a host of many other relatives and friends. Dunk was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Mae Sawyer, father, Eddie Sawyer, sister, Eddie Mae Sawyer, four brothers, Charles “Jeff”, Bennie, Michael “Moon” and Ernest Sawyer, one aunt, Jessie Foster; grandparents, Maria and Charlie Thomas. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2025 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Ernest L. Reed will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will begin at 9;00 a.m.
