Mrs. Rosie Mae Scott

Rosie Mae Scott was born in Roanoke, Alabama on February 5, 1930 to Daniel and Eva Simpson. She passed away on April 25, 2018 at the age of 88 years. She was one of twelve siblings which included, Calvin, Phillip, her twin sister, Mae Rose, Jessie Lee, Willie James, Sarah, Luevina, Daniel, Josephine, Clotea and Patricia. Rosie attended public schools and graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, AL. She met the love of her life, James Porter Scott in 1946. They were united in Holy Matrimony in 1952 and quickly started their family together. To this union was born five daughters and four sons. Mrs. Scott spent the majority of her young life raising children and was a stay at home wife. She worked sun up and sun down cooking, cleaning and managing her house and family. She had a ZeroTolerance and a no nonsense attitude when it came to following the rules in her home. The Ten Commandments were her mantle, plus she had a few self-made commandments as well, i.e., “Thou shalt not look like you want to say something.” When her kids were young, Rose would have an end of school year cookout for her children and all the kids in the neighborhood. She loved to teach the kids songs and recite poems that she learned as a child. She had a God given talent for reciting poems and words of inspiration. She instilled in her family the love of Jesus by always helping others no matter the need or the circumstance. Rosie has always been a praying mother and she made sure to teach her children to pray. She also taught them the importance of family; how to look out for each other, and to stick together. Rosie was a gifted and talented decorator. She took interior design classes in school which gave her an eye for what colors go together, and how to find the perfect accessories to accentuate any furniture, clothing or fabric. She had a love for fashion, and always looked beautiful. When she was a young lady, she loved to dance and sing. She even entered, and won a dance contest. Her favorite color was red; her favorite scripture, the 23rd Psalm and her favorite saying, “God don’t put no more on you than you can bear” (Rosie’s translation). Rosie was a lifelong member of St. Paul Baptist Church until she and her husband, for health reasons, moved to Georgia where they then made LinkedUp Christian Center their church home. Before her health declined, Rosie served in various auxiliaries: Announcement Clerk, Deaconess, Red Circle Teacher, President of the Missionary Department, Mother’s Board and several committees. While her spirit lives on forever, Rosie leaves to cherish her beloved memory, her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Reverend James Scott, Sr.; eight children, Eva Lois (Dan) Essex, James (Charlene) Scott, Jr., Spencer (Lisa) Scott, Wanda (Calvin) Lewis, Emma Hargrove, Ronnie (Donnetta) Scott, Janice (Jerome) Wilson, Lesia (Rodney) Scott; god-son, William Patrick Carter; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends. Mrs. Rosie Scott was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Eva Simpson; one son, Derrick Scott; son-in-law, Kenneth Hargrove; and one grandson, Jermaine Martin. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 120 North 15th Street, Saginaw, MI 48601 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Vincent McMillon will officiate with entombment at Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum, 5950 Gratiot, Saginaw, MI 48603. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
