Rowena Acoff

Memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2211 South Outer Drive. Brother Richard Seals will officiate. Mrs. Rowena Acoff passed away on January 13, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, MI at the age of 74 years. She and her twin brother were born on July 21, 1936 at Washington County Hospital in Greenville, MS. Rowena attended Coleman High School in Greenville, MS. As a teenager, she worked at the Black Night Cafe, which was owned by her parents. There she later met her husband of 56 years, Levi Acoff, Sr. Rowena enjoyed selling Avon and Watkins products for many years, and for more than 10 years, she worked as a housekeeper at Saginaw General Hospital. Rowena leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Levi Acoff, Sr.; children, Levi (Gwen) Acoff, Jr. of Michigan, Linda Acoff of Ohio, Rowena Acoff of Michigan, Alethea Acoff, Tanya C. Acoff, and Alfreda D. Acoff, all of Ohio and Annetta I. Acoff of Michigan; grandchildren, Maurice Acoff, Vernice (Isaac) Baiden, Lamont (Kim) Acoff, Calvin Johnson, Deonte’ Johnson, Ti’ara Acoff, and Dee Robinson; great-grandchildren, Marcellus Acoff and Kyah Acoff; siblings, Dorthy (Percy) Houston of Detroit, MI, Juanita (Willie) Duncan of Greenville, MS, and Willie B. Robinson of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara (Burkley) Robinson, Sr.; her siblings, Eddie Lee Thomas, Edda Mae Bell, and her twin, James Robinson, Sr.; and one child, Demetric Ann Acoff. In the fall of 1961, Rowena was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a member of the Saginaw East Congregation. Rowena enjoyed the Ministry very much. Her favorite part was Informal Witnessing. She really saw the importance of sharing her faith with others. She never missed an opportunity to preach to those at grocery stores, when out to eat, or wherever there were people. Rowena shared the hope found at John 5:28-29. “Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...” She will have the opportunity to live forever on a paradise earth.
