Mr. Royal Lee "Roy" Green

Royal “Roy” Green, age 71 years, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, MI. The youngest of seven siblings, he was born February 23, 1948 in Rayville, Louisiana from the union of Tom and Elizabeth (Williams) Green. He was “A Momma’s Boy” and all that knew him was privy to this truth. He was known by most as Roy however; he was affectionately called “Blit”, and “Left-hand” by many members of his family. Roy graduated from Carroll High School in Monroe, LA. Shortly after High School, he relocated to Saginaw, Michigan with his family. He served in the United States Army, is a veteran of the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge. After his military service, he established employment with General Motors and also began his lifelong goal of entrepreneurship. He eventually left General Motors and started his construction business and real estate endeavors which included renovating, restoring, and renting houses. He was very ambitious and took pride in his work. He was a self-taught carpenter and clever businessman. Stability came to Roy in the form of his family life. He had three daughters whom he shared with his former wife, Valorie (Hammond) Green. Roy loved his daughters immensely. He provided for them and taught them independence and strength. Being their dad was the highpoint of his life. Roy’s success afforded him to live an affluent life, but he was content with a very modest lifestyle; a reserved individual with a keen sense of humor. He was a logical man and full of wisdom. He loved watching sports on television and keeping up with world events on the evening news. He stayed informed and well versed on current events. His siblings looked to him as the “rational one”, often lending an ear and helping those around him with any problem. Roy is survived by his three daughters, TaRaea Green Sangster, Dr. Rosalyn Green Miller (Brennan) and Kela McClure (Eric); a sister, Ella M. Aldridge (Emery); a brother, Jimmy L. Green, all who have everlasting love for him. He also leaves to cherish his memory, eight grandchildren, Toryn, Berniecia, Lauryn, Zyon, Brynn, Bailey, Kaitlyn and Karis; one great-grandchild, Toryn, Jr.; a special nephew, Bobby Ray Green, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends who all loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Elizabeth Green; his eldest sister, Flossie Burns; three brothers, Oscar, Tommy and Lannie Green. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Cedric Cheatham will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
