Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at New Life Baptist Church Ministries, 1401 Janes Street. Pastor Rufus Bradley, Sr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Gaines passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the age of 83 years. She was born July 6, 1926 in Columbus, GA, the daughter of Matthew and Lovanna Reese. She married Edmond Gaines, Sr. on April 5, 1942 in Columbus, GA and they later moved to Saginaw, MI. He preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. Gaines was a member of New Life Baptist Church Ministries. She worked as a Surgical Nurse in Columbus, GA for three years, as a Practical Nurse at the Saginaw County Hospital for 15 years and at the Osteopathic Hospital for 25 years. She had also worked at the Luther Manor for one year. She attended Adult Education classes at Morley School and enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, crocheting and knitting. Mrs. Gaines was a member of the Bright Star Chapter #22, O.E.S. from 1960 until 1982, supporting five auxiliaries. She was a loving, sharing and caring woman who loved her family. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Viola Gaines-McMillon, Edmond (Jessie) Gaines, Jr. and Roy (Dorothy) Gaines, all of Saginaw, MI; 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends, including special friends, Gloria Gissendander, Mark Thompson, Curtis Anderson, Lodree McMurren and Saundra Lynn. She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, Ina Bell Young, EllaLee Ruth, Alberta Burkes, Lennie Mae Baker, Ellen McCoy and Viola Simpson; and five brothers, Eugene Reese, Matthew Reese, Roy Reese, Richard Reese and James Reese.
