Rufus Bryant

Family hour will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2007 with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke C.M.E. Church, 1121 Tuscola Street. Pastor James Hendricks will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue. Mr. Bryant went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the age of 76 years at St. Mary's of Michigan following a brief illness. Rufus was born December 28, 1930 to Calvin and Florie Bryant in Gordon, GA. He graduated from D.A. Smith High School in Ozark, AL. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 2, 1953 he was united in marriage to Fannie Comer Bryant (who predeceased him on August 20, 2003) and to this union of 50 years three children were born. Mr. Bryant retired in 1976 after 25 years from GM-Malleable Iron and was a member of UAW Local #455. He was a member of St. Luke C.M.E. Church where he served on the Usher Board for many years. He enjoyed fishing, being with his family, especially his grandchildren, and friends. He will be greatly missed. Rufus leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Diana (Lindsey) Mitchell and Brenda Chester all of Saginaw; nine grandchildren, Deanna, Kanisha, Camille, L.J., Avery, Michelle, Tyler, Ashley and Shayan; five great-grandchildren, Kimari, Diamond, Ira, Cameron and Taevion; one brother, Col./06 Calvin (Ruby) Bryant, Jr. of South Riding, VA; daughter-in-law, Sandra Bryant of Grand Rapids, MI; brother-in-law, Nealy Claudy, Jr. of Detroit, MI, sister-in-law, Gussie Dick of Ozark, AL; two nieces including special niece, Gloria Claudy; two nephews; uncle, Cleveland Smith; two aunts, Mammie Doster of Saginaw and Ellen Veal of Gordon, GA; special friends, Robert and Frances Jones, Milton and Carolyn Nickerson and the Walker Family. Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his wife; son, Timothy Bryant; parents; granddaughter, Shayla Bryant and his sister. Special thanks to Felicia Pipkins his caregiver, St. Mary's of Michigan and its 7th Floor staff, Dr. Vincent and staff and Aleda E. Lutz VA Hospital.
