Mr. Samuel "Sambo" Woodhouse Sr.

Samuel “Sambo” Woodhouse, Sr. our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and brother went on to be with the Lord at home following a brief illness on Friday November 4, 2016. Sam was born July 10, 1927 in Vicksburg, MS to the late Winfield and Gertrude (Green) Woodhouse, Sr. He later relocated to Saginaw, MI where he married Gladys (Charleston) Woodhouse. He retired from the Saginaw Malleable Plant-GM after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Saginaw, MI under the leadership of Reverend James Hodge. He was baptized in 2008 at the age of 81. When Sam needed to take his mind off the hustle and bustle of the day he would go out on the river and clear his mind while fishing. Sam was a missionary without the license. He never met a stranger. He was always helping someone, whether it was giving a ride to doctor appointments, the grocery store or taking children to school. He was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back. He had a smile that would light up a room. Sam was a real family man. It gave him great joy to be around his family. Sam leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Danita and Patricia Woodhouse; one son, Samuel Woodhouse, Jr., all of Saginaw MI; five grandchildren, Kaneisha Woodhouse (Eric) Sparks of Saginaw, MI, Tannika Woodhouse of Raleigh, NC, Kerwanna (Marqui)Woodhouse-Davis of Marietta, GA, Quanteisha Price and Samuel Woodhouse III of Saginaw, MI; eight great-grandchildren, Makiah Stewart, Erionna Sparks, Autyonndra “Tya” Almond-Woodhouse, KeonDre Woodhouse, Lanaiza Sparks, Kayliyah Weems-Woodhouse, Christopher Woodhouse and Cameron Davis; one sister, Rosie Duckett; a very special sister-in-law, Minnie Mae Thomas; dear friend, Gerldine Fraiser; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Winfield Woodhouse, Sr.; wife, Gladys Woodhouse; daughter, Brenda Woodhouse; three brothers, Jessie Addison, Winfield Woodhouse Jr, and James Woodhouse; six sisters, Florence Woodhouse, Mary Mosley, Emma Meeks, Mariah Bills, Annie Cook and Mattie DeLaCruz. The Woodhouse family would like to give a very special thank you to Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, Dr. Long, Sam’s primary care provider, Rev. James Hodge and the entire church family at St. John Missionary Baptist Church and a very heartfelt thank you to the staff at Southern Care Hospice for the awesome care provided. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2403 East Remington, Pastor Murry Culberson, Host Pastor. Pastor James Hodge will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
