Mrs. Secily Lorae Yates

Secily Lorae Yates beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and cousin went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the age of 65 years. Secily was born on September 29, 1958 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was the daughter of LeRoy and Rev. Maude Burton. As a child she attended Bethel A.M.E. Church and participated in Sunday School, Prayer Meetings, Church Revivals and Vacation Bible School. As a teen, like her mother, Secily loved to sew. She made outfits not only for her self, but also for friends. Her love for fashion continued into her adulthood and she loved shopping for new fashions. After graduating from St. Joseph High School, she attended Western Michigan University. In 1984 she moved to Maryland and eventually began working for Montgomery County, MD Police Department as a Police Dispatcher. In 1986 she met “The love of her life”, Angelo Yates, he survives her. The two of them were married in a beautiful ceremony in November 1992. She continued to work for the Montgomery County Police Department until an illness forced her onto long-term sick leave in 1993. Secily was so beloved at her job with Montgomery County that when her sick leave ran out, her co-workers donated portions of their salaries to her to ensure that she never missed a paycheck for nearly a year until her disability retirement kicked in. She retired from the Montgomery County Police Department in 1994. After taking ill, she returned to Saginaw accompanied by her husband, Angelo where she attended Jarena A.M.E. Church as a faithful member and tither. While in Saginaw one child, Shaniya Angenique Yates was born to this union. After several years in Saginaw, they returned to reside in Bowie, MD. From the onset of her illness until the day that she transitioned some 25 plus years later, her husband Angelo was by her side and took care of her. Secily leaves to cherish her memory, husband, Angelo Kenneth Yates; daughter, Shaniya Angenique Yates; two sisters, Sonya Lampkin and Deidra (Howard) McEachern; one nephew, Errol (Marissa) Baty; four nieces, Beverly Bankstorm, Shanika Lampkin, Diamond Davis, and Teleah McEachern; three great-nieces; seven great-nephews; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Secily Lorae Yates was preceded in death by her father, LeRoy and mother, Pastor Maude Burton; a sister, Mary Lee (Joseph) Short; brother, Errol “Macky” Jackson and a nephew, Lim Hookfin. Secily will be missed by all who loved her. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Rev. Thelma Williams will officiate with interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens 950 North Center, Saginaw, MI 48603. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
