Ms. Shanika Tarvette Southward

Ms. Shanika Tarvette Southward finished her earthly journey and departed to be with the Lord on Sunday October 16, 2016 at the age of 38 years. She was born March 14, 1978 in Saginaw, Michigan the daughter of Carolyn Southward and Shem Hardwick. Shanika was a long time employee of Saginaw Public School District and was one of the most caring people in the world. She really enjoyed spending time with her family and extended children who loved her creativity. Shanika enjoyed Indie Soul music and on Saturday mornings she jammed and had her own personal party. Ms. Shanika T. “Nika” Southward leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Jasmine LA “Shay” Southward; parents, Carolyn Southward and Shem Hardwick; god-children, Ca’mari and Markese Southward, Amonie, Amarie, Kahlease, Tyrease and Tyri Watson, Justin and Julian Scott; god-mothers, Yvette Wofford and Donna Hairston; grandparents, Mildred (Joe) Gipson; three sisters, Shavonne Manley, Kendrell (Rashad) Davis and Shavonda Frazier; one brother Shemar Hardwick; five nieces, Johnasia Bernard, Johnyca and Imunque Manley, Alyias Rodgerand Jada Davis; two nephews, Johnny Bernard and Demetrius Oliver; 12 aunts, Gwendolyn (Ray) Gooding, Mary Wilson, Dorothy Dixon, Lenora Whitmore, Wanda Alston, Brenda (Billy) Johnson, Pamela (Mosby) Clark, Juanita Boyd, Kay, Sheila, Fredrica and Kim Gipson; eight uncles, David (Rose) Southward, Willie Southward, Gregory Southward, Joe (Bee) Gipson, Jr., Jerry Boyd, Micheal Boyd, JD White and Randolph White; special cousins, Sallie Wilson, Tamika Boyd, Ta Ronda Southward, Kenyatta Nettles, Marquesha Southward, Rhasheena Boyd, Kierra Blakes, Latrice Griffith and Jamil Hill; cousins, David Favorite, David Wallace, Nike Southward, Daviyon Southward, Brandon Wootten, Willus Williamson, Tyler and Camron Southward, Shanique Southward, Krystal Cuffey, Chad Wilson, Kim Jefferson, Eddie Young, Shermica Chandler, Shayla Hairston, Alice Jefferson and Kenyatta Jeffers; other relatives and friends including, Latova Watson, Julie (Ledell) Scott, Tiffany Sikes, Greg (Veronica) Coleman and Yvonne Woff. Ms. Southward was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray And Synola Hardwick; great-grandmother, Jeanette Boyd; uncle, Kim Hardwick; three-great-aunts, Patricia Diane Boyd, Ruth Boyd and Linda Jean Boyd; great-uncle, Hamp Boyd; two cousins, Dontay Boyd and Jerry Hamilton. The family would like to express special thanks to, foot Dr. & Nurses and Dr. Donovan. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 North 6th Street, Dr. Marvin T. Smith, host pastor and Elder Mosby Clark will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
