Ms. Shirley Ann Currie

Ms.Shirley Ann Currie was born November 18, 1950 in Brownsville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. B.J. and Virginia (Jackson) Currie. She departed this life on earth October 7, 2015 at St. Mary’ of Michigan, with her family by her side after a brief illness. Brownsville, Tennessee being her birthplace gave her the fortitude to strive for the best. Shirley attended elementary and high school in Brownsville and continued her education at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee where she graduated with a B.A. Degree in Elementary Education. After moving to Saginaw, Michigan she earned her Master’s Degree from Saginaw Valley State College (University) in Classroom Management. Shirley was employed by the Saginaw Board of Education for thirty years teaching at various schools such as Loomis, Morley and Stone Elementary from which she retired. Shirley gave her life to Christ at an early age uniting with the Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Brownsville. Once she moved to Saginaw, she joined Zion Baptist Church where she was a member for over forty years. Shirley’s love and memories will live on to be cherished by her son, Jordan T. Currie (Lisa Vargas), her three grandchildren; Jordan Jr., Justin and Brianna Currie; two step-grandchildren, Antonio and Daijaijuan Vargas; three sisters, Carolyn Currie of Saginaw, MI, Maxine (Johnny) Coleman and Charlotte Currie, both of Brownsville, TN: niece, Cheryl Currie of Saginaw, MI; nephew, Bryan Currie of Nashville, TN; great-nephew, Zhander Phillips of Saginaw, MI; aunt Ethel Holloway of Detroit, MI; godson, Christopher McPearson of TN; a host of cousins including special cousin and friend, Patricia Currie of Memphis, TN; good friend, buddy and fellow teacher, Charlie (Ervin) Watkins; a host of many other relatives, friends and former students. Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Glen D. Currie; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed (Benana) Currie; and maternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Henry (Beatrice) Jackson. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 will take place at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Johnson Street, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Rodrick A. Smith officiating. Interment Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Ave., Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 2:00- 8:00p.m.
