Mrs. Shirley Dunnaway

Don’t think of her as gone away, her journey’s just begun” Shirley was born to the parents of Henry C. Boose and Velma L. Hill in Hickory, Mississippi. She passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the age of 88 years. She was raised in Saginaw, Michigan by Joseph Dunn and Dollie Boose. At the age of six years old, she had a neighbor who was eight years old and years later they became husband and wife. John and Shirley Dunnaway were married for 70 years. He survives her. Other than being a loving wife she was a devoted mother raising her children and being a homemaker. She enjoyed working in her yard and growing beautiful flowers. Mrs. Dunnaway was an excellent cook; every one enjoyed the delicious meals that she prepared. We’ve tried, but none of us can duplicate the delicious flavor of her dressing, sweet potato pies or the sweet tea that she made. She loved her family and spoiled her grandchildren. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church and was gainfully employed at Aleda Lutz V A Hospital. She retired after many loyal years of service. She was proud to be part of a 5th generation family, three children, Vickie E. (Harold) Brown: Asha and Rahshard, Valerie J. Marshal Dunnaway: Andre and Eric and Sabrina L. Dunnaway: Ebeni, Erriesha and Ashley; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ann (Elijah) Buffington, Arthur (Rubye) Boose, Rev. Ruby (Deacon Kermit) Thames, Charles (Cynthia) Boose, Bernard Boose, James Boose and Raymond Dunn; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones and friends. Shirley was greeted at Heaven’s gate by her siblings, Flora Lee Chapman, Willie Cross, Rosie Lewis, Lucy Bolton, Henry, Robert and Johnny Boose. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m.with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Ruby N. Thames will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Wasington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
