Ms. Shirley Ann Mitchell

Ms. Shirley Ann Mitchell was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 4, 1947 to the proud parents of Louis and Cora Mitchell. She passed away on June 10, 2026 at the age of 78 years. Shirley was a longtime resident of Saginaw, Michigan, and served faithfully for many years as a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, she was a dedicated member of the Gospel Choir and recently, the Praise Team. She was educated in the Buena Vista School system, graduating in 1965, then continued her education earning an Associate Degree from Delta College. Ms. Mitchell gained employment as a Telephone Operator at Michigan Bell Telephone Co. where she was promoted to a Supervisor position and continued employment for AT&T Telecommunications. She worked full time and part time at Healthsource Saginaw. She enjoyed attending church, spending time with family and friends, shopping, playing bingo, cooking, baking, decorating, listening to the blues and dancing. Ms. Mitchell leaves a devoted daughter, Robyn Lynn Mitchell (Torrance Whitson) Saginaw; two loving sons, Craig E. Mitchell, Winooski, VT and Christopher R. Mitchell, Saginaw; four grandchildren, Jordan Chrisopher Mitchell, Ft. Wayne, IN, Wesley T. Nash, Jr., Torrayah Lynn and Ryder Jerome Whitson all of Saginaw; two sisters, Barbara (Harold) Artis, Lansing, MI and Rita (Fred) Taylor, Saginaw; three brothers, Lynn Mitchell, Columbia, MO, Cassell and Winfred Mitchell both of Saginaw; four nieces, Keara Artis, Lansing, MI, Carly (Curtis) Wright, Kansas City, MO, Neko Barlow, Northport, FL and Ledora White, Jacksonville, FL; five nephews, Troy (Jodi) Mitchell, Saginaw, Corey (Tolleah) Mitchell, Maryland, Christopher Mitchell, Missouri, Tyler and Rodney Mitchell, Saginaw; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Pastor Gregory and First Lady Louise Johnson, Glenn Dobson, Mary Whitson and family, Ella Jones and family; special god-mother, Roberta Franklin; god-sisters, Kathreen O’Daniel, Bobbie Ross and Earleen Smithers and bonus daughter, Ta-Tasha Thomas. Ms. Shirley Ann Mitchell was preceded in death by her loving parents, Louis and Cora Mitchell; a brother, Winthrop (Tim) Barlow; grandparents, Henry Phillips and Rosie Lyles, Sam Henry and Georgia Mitchell; aunts, Beatrice Wiseman, Mable Sears, Velma Phillips, Sallie Mims, Marie Blacknall, Myra Holton, Christine Mallott, Ernestine Meyers and Juanita Mitchell; uncles, John Mims, Gather Wiseman, Bob Holton and P.G. Blacknell; nephew, Joseph Lynn Mitchell. Special thanks to Avista Nursing and Rehab, Glenn Dobson, Rita Taylor, Gloria Jean Willis, Torrance Whitson, Valarie Hill, Quangi Glenn, most of all her beautiful grandchildren who called her, “NuNu”. Family Hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Gregory Johnson, Sr. will officiate with interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 N. Center Rd., Saginaw, MI 48638. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the ftime of service.
