Sophronia Johnson

Passed away Friday, June 9, 2006 at the age of 80 years. Family hour will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 North 6th Street, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Marvin T. Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Johnson passed away on Friday, June 9, 2006. Sophronia was born on April 12, 1926 to Dan and Augustine (Morgan) Gardner in Minter City, MS. She confessed Christ at an early age in 1936 uniting in membership with New Jericho Baptist Church in Doddsville, MS under the leadership of Rev. Jessie Parker. In 1953, she moved to Saginaw, MI from Memphis TN joining the Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.B. Bradley. In 1944 she wed the love of her life William (Buddy) Johnson, who preceded her in death in 1997. She was employed in the service industry for many years; Robertson Laundry, The Wenonah Hotel, Saginaw Waste Water and finally retiring from the Saginaw Civic Center. After retiring she joined the Foster Grandparent Program, working at Heavenrich Elementary School. She leaves to cherish precious memories, one daughter, Loistine (Ruben) Irvin, Saginaw, MI; one son, Leonard "Wayne" (Brigitte) Johnson, Stafford, VA; six grandchildren, Tonia Irvin Moxley, Ruben L. (Doris) Irvin, both of Saginaw, MI, Chandra and Leandra Johnson both of Stafford, VA, Danielle (Damon) Beasley of Enid OK, and Charles Moxley of Saginaw, MI; three great-grandchildren, DeAndre Johnson, Stafford, VA, Tasmin Irvin and D'Von Jones of Saginaw, Mi; one loving sister, Jessie L. Hawthorne of East St. Louis, IL; two sisters-in-law, Fannie Johnson and Lillian Robinson of Florida; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Willie Bell Williams, Grace Nelson, Mary Morris, Moudine Johnson and Jessie Sanders. Sophronia was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband. Special thanks to Heartland Health Care Center, Saginaw and Workers, Tina, Mercedes, Linda, Anita, Tosah and all who made her stay pleasant.
