Mr. Sturlin Nelson

Mr. Sturlin “Sonny” Nelson, a Christian, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend departed this earth to his heavenly home on November 17, 2022 at the age of 66 years. He was born in Wabash, Arkansas on June 18, 1956 the only son of Jessie and Viola Nelson. Sturlin was a hard worker plowing snow, doing landscaping and the maintenance at the church. He was a long-time faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Where he sang in the Gospel Choir and the Male Chorus, in addition to serving the Lord, he enjoyed cooking and watching western TV shows. His hobbies included, fishing, singing, spending time and joking around with his family and friends. Sturlin would light up the room with his presence, he made sure you knew he was there. He had a profound sense of humor all the way up until he left this earth. Sturlin was always willing to give a helping hand. Mr. Nelson leaves precious memories to be cherished by his loving significant other of many years, Jessie Parham; three sons, Jermaine Brown of Cincinnati, OH, Sterling (Evana) Nelson, Jr. of Lansing, MI and Sterling (Ronda) Nelson of Saginaw; three daughters, Jacqueline Parham of Saginaw, MI, Emily (Fabian) Rainey and Jamie Parham, both of Dallas, TX; 19 grandchildren, Parick and Patrice Calbert, Darius Lakes, Jantayvia and Jaquevion (T’onnie) Parham, Tarkeus (Angelic) Gee, Jr., Laniara, LaTerra, LaKayla and Sterling Nelson and Fay’Dreona Rainey, all of Saginaw, Ray’vionna Parham, Earnest Watkins, Phavion Rainey, Mi’Amor Mallet, Passionare, Paradise, and Jimmy Johnson, Jr., all of Dallas, TX, Trevana (Jay) Crower of Midland, MI; 11 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Emma (Banks) Morris, Doris (John) Stammer of Saginaw, MI, Jessie (Johnnie) Griffin of San Diego, CA, Maxine (Rickey) Pippins of Lansing, MI and Jessica (DeAundre) Laury of Fort Wayne, IN; a special aunt, Bessola Johnson; cousins, Louise, Frank, Leonard and Erwin Johnson; extended family, Mama Patricia Nelson, the Parham, King and Hall families; many nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends, including special friends, Michelle Frazier, Terry Snow and Willie Ervin. Sturlin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jessie and Viola Nelson; a daughter, Sherylyn Nelson; grandson, Shaveon Ervin; great-grandson, Tarkeus Gee III; sisters,, Clara Williams and Obery (Della) Lewis; his mother and father-in-love, John and Gladys Parham; nephews, Justyn “Shaun” Tyndaal and Jhon Marq Stammers. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Albert Haynes will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
