Mrs. Sunobia Sims

Mrs. Sunobia Sims passed away March 18, 2024 at Belmont Bay Rehab Center at the age of 78 years. She was born on October 22, 1945 in Jemison, Alabama to the parents of Jimmy Melton and Mamie Moore. Sunobia graduated from Jemison High School in 1963. After relocating to Saginaw, Michigan, she began her college education at Delta College in Bay City, Michigan. She worked at General Motors Corporation for 25 years, she was a member of UAW Local 699, and retired in 2012. She was bright, loving, caring, always giving grace and love to everyone she encountered. Sunobia was a cheerful giver and spoiled her grandchildren, always. She loved her grandchildren so much and talked about them all of the time. Sunobia loved playing cards, hanging out with friends and family, and her most favorite saying was, “Tell daddy!” She was truly a daddy girl! Mrs. Sims leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Antwinette L. Luke of Virginia; daughters-in-law, Doris A. Luke of Saginaw, MI, Trina Johnson and Ann Pauley, both of Ohio; grandchildren, Tramaine, Sunobia, Marquez and Antwine and Lawrence Luke, Paul, Shardae Shade, Jazmine Reed, Anttorria Fields, Destiny Johnson and Christopher Pettigrew; great-grandchildren, Atreyon, Tramaine, Jr. and Nautica and Natalia Luke; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Doris (Michael) Doty, Cathy (Ronnie) Hilson and Dorothy Brown; brothers, Jimmy Melton, Jr., MacArthur (Pat) Melton, Melvin (Lisa) Melton, Kevin (Toni) Moore and Willie (Ann) Bishop; aunt, Lorraine Jordan; uncles, Simon (Sharon) Melton, Johnie (Linda) Melton, Lawerence, George and Antwine Hampton; sisters-in-law, Kalvis Brown and Helen Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Fonza “Pete” Bishop, Larry Kemp, Larry Wilson, Minnie Boyd and Robin Lee. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her son and daughter, Everett D. and Shonta D. Luke; parents, Jimmy Melton and Mamie Moore; sisters, Beverly Powell, Joyce Washington and Willie Mae Howard; brothers, Ira “Dee Dee” Melton and Jerrell A. Melton, Jr.; aunt, Julietta Hampton and a host of uncles. Family hour will take place at 12:00 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607, with funeral services commencing at 1:00 PM. Pastor Melvin Melton will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
