Verba L. "Bubba Lee" Martin

Mrs. Verba Lee Martin, affectionately known as “Bubba Lee" to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. She was born on July 24, 1938 to Earthalean and Pamp Postway in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was 75 years old. She was raised by her grandmother, Earthalean Postway, and attended school in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Verba moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1964 with her loving husband, Ceabon “Bud” Martin. Verba was employed at Vlasic Food and retired after 30 years of service. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usher Board. Verba was known for her sense of humor, her winning smile, and her giving heart and soul to all of her family and friends. She loved all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the best caregiver for all of them. Verba wore many hats in her life and she wore them well. Verba was an excellent cook, especially during the holiday seasons when it was time to prepare her famous “dressing”. You could always come by Verba’s house to get a plate of food to eat. Therefore, people around her held her in the highest esteem. Verba was a good friend to all who knew her. If you asked her for advice, she did not hesitate to give you the most truthful and best advice she could give you. Verba enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed shopping, travelling, and spending time with her family, and eating, especially watermelon and chicken. She was a strong mother figure to so many people. She was a devoted wife. The bond she and her husband shared cannot be broken. “Bud” will miss his wife. Verba taught her children and grandchildren the importance of truth, loyalty and respect. She was a woman of moral expectation and wisdom. She built a foundation for her family and never making a difference of blood of her blood and others that came into her life. She was loved by everyone. Verba had a strong faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. Verba is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ceabon “Bud” Martin. They had seven children during this union, Freddy, Billy Ray, Donnie (Jenell), Derrick (Debbie), Debra, Kim, and Roshunda Martin, all of Saginaw, Michigan. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, Detrick Lewis, Dominique Martin, Ladonnis Duncan, Willie Martin, Donterrius Duncan, Toni Cole, Shana Martin, Devon Martin, Devontay Martin, E’mya King, Freddie Martin Jr., Makayle King, DeLando Martin, and two special granddaughters, Nakeisha (Porter) Bledson III and Danielle Martin; and eleven-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her sister, Bertha Lee Louther, Pine Bluff, Arkansas; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Millie Martin, Ronnie Martin, and Lorene Martin, all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Juliana Williford, Jonathan (Ledoris) Martin, Irene (Robert) Thomas and Johnny (Felicia) Martin, all of Saginaw, Michigan. Special relatives include Brenda White, Anita Robinson, Kevin Thomas, Betty Epperson and Earthalean Findlay. Special friends include Mary Joiner, Peggy Brown, Allene Hawkins, Linda VanderPool and Verba’s God-daughter, Darnita Hodge of Saginaw, Michigan. Verba was preceded in death by her parents, Earthalean and Pamp Postway; her sisters, Beatrice (J.W.) White, Viola (Robert) Alexander and her brother, Jimmy Lee Postway; her mother and father-in-law, Mose and Irene Martin; her sister-in-law, Emma Crosby; brothers-in-law, Ike Louther, Mose Martin Jr., Elijah Martin; and her precious grandson, Dondre Martin. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at World Outreach Campus, 2405 Bay Road. Entombment will be in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
