Walter Terry,

Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at New Galilee Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1722 Sanford St., with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Luciose Lewis, Jr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Ave, on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Walter Terry, Sr. departed this life the 7th day of October 2009 at home. Walter Terry, Sr. was born the 3rd day of September 1925 in West Point, MS, the son of the late Tom Terry and Georgia Ann Wright. He was united in marriage to Lula Bell Westbrook in West Point, MS on August 11, 1945. She preceded him in death on March 20, 1981. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and a past member of the Male Choir. He was employed at the GM Powertrain, formerly known as the Chevrolet Grey Iron Plant in Saginaw, until retirement in 1980. Walter Terry, Sr. loved gardening, fishing, sports, hunting, barbecuing, cooking, music and people. He is survived by three sons and five daughters, Burnice Clark, Chicago, IL, Walter Jr. (Pam) Terry, Toledo, OH, Eddie Jean (Linda) Terry, West Point, MS Otis Terry, Shreveport, LA, Christine T. (James) Land, Gloriest Terry, Evelyn (Rev. Erelcely) Miller and Joyce Terry, all of Saginaw, MI; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Nelson (Pearline) Terry, Sim (Curtissine) Terry, Eliza (OB) Matthews, all of Saginaw, MI, Annie B. Moore, Roland, AR, Leavtor Terry, West Point, MS; sister-in-law, Eva Bell Westbrook; three nieces, Louise Hill, Rosette Poole and Betsy Hodges, all of West Point, MS; and a special friend, Lillie Harris. Mr. Terry was also preceded in death by one daughter, Ida May Scruggs, St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, Yashica Shima Terry, Jarmiesha JeCole Thomas and Walter La’Mon James Terry, Jr.; brothers and sisters, Claudia, Tom, Martha, Mary, Arthur and Surhaver Terry and a special niece, Deniese Westbrook-Dugan. The family would like to express special thanks to Ms. Lillie Harris and the Harris family, Altamash A. Amin and staff, Covenant Medical Center-Cooper and the Emergency Care Center, Keith, Nathan, Sherrie A-25 C-367, American Health Care and Staff and Sheldon Medical Supply staff.
