Ms Wanda Sue Whitson

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Wanda Sue “Suzie Q” Whitson, went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2025 at the age of 61 years at MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw. Wanda’s life began on December 25, 1963 in Berry, Alabama where she was born to the loving parents, Rubert and Ester Whitson. At her young age, the family moved to Saginaw, Michigan which became her home for the rest of her life. She attended Ruben Daniels Community School, earning her GED in 1982. Before Uber was a thing, Wanda was the family Uber driver with daily fixed routes up until she could no longer drive. Throughout her life, Wanda maintained an unwavering enthusiasm for living that allowed her to thrive despite any challenges she may have faced. Her selfless nature, kindness, love, thoughtfulness and nurturing heart made her an extraordinary individual who touched countless lives. Whether fishing, watching basketball or football, dancing, or spending time with loved ones, Wanda always found joy in sharing those moments with others, Despite being confined by physical limitations, Wanda’s spirit remained unbridled throughout her years. In the later stages of her life, she liked to travel, no doubt seeking more experiences to cherish and remember. Wanda is survived by her loving daughter, Lataysha Whitson; her cherished granddaughter, Loyailti Whitson, the apple of her eye; sister, Mary Whitson, Saginaw; four aunts, Marie Pipkin and Bobbie Haley, both of Columbus, OH, Shirley Haley and Earlene Whitson both of Saginaw; two uncles, Franklin Whitson and Tommie Haley; Berry, AL; five nephews, Torrance (Robyn) Whitson, Sr., Saginaw, Patrick (Dr. Veneshia) Whitson, Oro Valley, AZ, Marcelus, Teveon, and Demaris Whitson all residing in Saginaw,; one god-son, Torrance Whitson, Jr.; eight great-nephews and six great-nieces, including special great-niece, Ta’Niya Whitson; numerous cousins; god-sister, Mary Babers; many special friends and extended family members including the Sanders, Sullivan, Nash, and Townsend families. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Rubert and Ester Whitson; one daughter, Darshaya Whitson; one sister, Pamela Whitson; grandparents, Willie and Mary Haley, Nubert and Susie Whitson. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 North 6th Street, Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Joshua M. Daniels, Senior Pastor and Pastor Marcelle T. Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
