Mr. William Lewis Monroe, Sr.

Mr. William Lewis Monroe, Sr. our father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin and uncle transitioned peacefully from this life to heavenly rest on December 28, 2023 after a lengthy illness at the age of 72 years. William Lewis Monroe, Sr. was born September 28, 1951 to Theodore, Jr. and Neva Mae Monroe in wolf Island, MO. He was the second of 11 children. William loved his family. He was an artist that loved to draw. He graduated from Arthur Hill Tech High School in 1968; which was an all-boy Technical school that trained its students different (skills) trades. He was one of the 12 black students to attend Arthur Hill Tech along with 11 others from the 4th and Norman neighborhood. They were all very smart and intelligent young men. Their family fought and protested for them to attend Arthur Hill Tech. He retired from Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant, General Motors, Corp. after 26 years. He loved football and western movies. He was a member of Good Shepard Church of God In Christ as a young boy and served under his father, Pastor Theodore Monroe, Jr. He also excepted his brother as his Pastor, Tony Monroe, Sr. and he recommitted his life to the Lord. Mr. Monroe leaves to his memory, his wife, Janice Monroe; one son, William, Jr. (Decolia) Monroe; seven grandchildren, Angela (Terrell) Jawuan, Debreanne, Angel, Whitley, Willow, Diamond; three brothers, Tyrone (Christine) Monroe of Minnesota, Tony Monroe, Sr. of Saginaw, and Charles Monroe, Sterling Hts, MI; four sisters, Ruth Monroe, Caroline Young, Catherine Hicks, all of Saginaw and Evangeline Monroe of Sterling Hts., MI; stepchildren, Lakesha, Chrystal (Rodney) Sweeney, Jamar (Loriande) Conerly, Napoleon; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Essex, and brother and sisters-in-law; a host of aunts and uncles including Geraldine (Moty) McKinney, Alberta Jackson and Larry (Pamela) Monroe; special cousin, Vetra Monroe; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. William Monroe was greeted at the Heavenly Gates by his father and mother, Supt. Theodore, Jr. and Neva; first wife, Debra Monroe; daughter, Angela Monroe; brothers, Billy Bell and Jerry Monroe; sister, Vera Monroe; grandparents, aunts and uncles. The family extend special thanks to family and friends to Covenant Healthcare Saginaw, Medi-Lodge Rehab Center, Grand Blanc, MI, Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home and staff to every church that has prayed for the strength of the family. Special thanks to Ruth Monroe. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tony Monroe will officiate and Pastor Taurus Simpson will preside, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave, Saginaw, MI 48601 . Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
