Mr. Willie L. Bond

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, God called home a faithful servant, Deacon Willie L. Bond at the age of 85. He was born December 11, 1938 in Brownsville, TN to Albert and Marie Bond, they preceded him in death. He attended New Hope Baptist Church, Brownsville, TN. He was a graduate of Carver High School Class of 1958; upon graduation he came to Saginaw where he was employed by Saginaw Malleable (formerly Central Foundry GM) for forty-two years. He was a member of UAW Local 455 and retired as a millwright in 2000. In 1958, he united with the Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. James P. Wilson and was the second person to be baptized by Rev. Wilson. He was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Dr. Marvin T. Smith in 2003. A faithful member for sixty-six years, he served with the Laymen Ministry (including district, state and national levels), Trustee Ministry, Offering Verification Team, Choir, Male Chorus and Heavenly Hands Kitchen Ministry. On September 27, 1964 he married the love of his life, Tena (Lee) Bond. They celebrated 59 years together and were the proud parents of three children. Deacon Bond truly loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was full of wisdom. He had a quiet demeanor, but he commanded respect. He loved his wife and children, and he adored his seven grandchildren. He also enjoyed relaxing while he watched the Detroit Lions, Tigers, and Pistons with his wife. He faithfully attended the Bond and Parker Family Reunions. During the early years of the Bond Family Reunion, he would always arrive a couple days early to help cook and prepare for the big feast on Uncle Johnnie’s farm. He was a member of Major Moten #1 of International Free & Accepted Modern Masons for over forty-years. He was a mentor for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. Mr. Willie L. Bond leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 59 years, Tena L. Bond; three children, Darrell (LeVera) Bond, Southfield, MI, Tyrun (Gwendolyn) Bond, Canton, MI, and Trishun (Darrick) Fitzgerald, Coppell, TX; seven grandchildren, DeAnna, LeDea, Julian, Chandler, Tyrun, Jr., Tyler and Taylor; four sisters, Velma (Bobby) Emerson, Helen (William) Davis, all of Decatur, IL, Emma Atwater, Saginaw, MI and Virgie Bond, Milwaukee, WI,; three brothers, Albert (Beatrice) Bond, Hubert (Mary) Bond and Kenneth (Lorraine) Bond, all of Saginaw, MI; two aunts, Charlene Bond, Milwaukee, WI and Louise Parker, Brownsville, TN; four sisters-in-law, Alberta Austin, Vivian Tarkington, Gladys Humes, Saginaw, MI and Pinkie Sanders, Chicago, IL; brother in law, Davis Lee, Saginaw, MI.; special cousin, Sharon Parker, Crofton, MD; special friend, Deacon Jim Bender; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, friends, and his Mt. Olive Church family. Deacon was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Decellus Atwater; aunts, Mildred Polk, Alberta Sangster and Dorothy Wrenn; uncles, Dave Bond, Eddie Bond, Raymond Bond, John Bond, Robert Bond, L.V. Parker, Roosevelt Parker, Buddy Parker, Cecil Parker, Howell T. Parker and Jack Parker. Special thanks to our caring and attentive neighbors, Glen and Ellen Simon, Davita Dialysis, Bridgeport, MI and Covenant Select Specialty, Dr. Marvin T. Smith and the Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church Family. Family hour 11:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1114. N. 6th Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601, with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM. Dr. Marvin T. Smith will officiate. Entombment in Roselawn Memorial Garden, 950 N. Center, Saginaw, MI 48603. Visitation will be from 2:00-7:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Funeral Home.
