Ms. Willie Ruth"Babe" Morris

Willie Ruth (Bowens) Morris was the daughter of Meriam Louise Hagler and Willie Lee Bowens, born on March 18, 1934 in Gilmer, Texas. She passed away on July 20, 2025 at the age of 91 years. Willie and her family relocated from Texas when she was a teenager and resided in Saginaw thereafter. She was a Saginaw High School graduate and then attended the Saginaw Beauty Academy and Cosmetology School. She earned licenses and certifications as both a Cosmetologist Technician and Beautician. Shortly after completing the Beauty Academy, she gained employment working for several well-known beauty salons. She enjoyed working as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader. She received clerical certifications including Book Keeper and Clerk Typist. Willie was employed at Federals Department Store as a Retail Clerk, later advancing as a Retail Merchandiser. She retired as a Production Line Inspector with General Motors/Delphi Automotive Systems and a member of UAW Local #467. She was a member of New Life Baptist Ministries. Willie possessed a plethora of good qualities: intelligent, compassionate, loving, strong willed, nurturing and down-to-earth. She was family oriented, family-focused, loyal and always in control. Her genuine human characteristics sprinkled with feistiness and stubbornness defined her. Willie was a blessed force to be reckoned with. She took pleasure in numerous hobbies: taking cruises, bingo, softball, bowling, fishing, knitting, doing hair and game night. She loved cooking, baking and barbecuing. Willie had an immense love for family. She would say, “All we have is God and family”, “Family time is all the time.” Most mornings, her first words would be “God is good.” Her happy all day saying was, “Hey-Hey-Hey.” As a term of endearment, family called her “Babe.” She leaves to cherish many precious memories her children, Linda King, Boston, MA, Lou Ann Fresorger, Saginaw, Mary Thompson, Miami, FL, James Morris, Ozark, AL, Noland King, Saginaw, Elva Hampton, St. Louis, MO, Stephen Morris, Saginaw and Charles Morris, Denver, CO; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; god-children, Lester Roberson, Saginaw, Carol J. Green, Houston, TX, Donna Hughes, Saginaw, April Bliss, Flint, MI and Ira Ayers, Detroit, MI; two sisters, Lillian George and Pamela Currington both of Saginaw; two brothers, Patrick (Azalee) Williams and Daryl Currington both of Saginaw; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Vera Hill, Betty Jean Collins and Isabelle Rodriques. Ms. Willie Ruth Morris was preceded in death by her parents, Meriam Louise Hagler and Willie Lee Bowens; bonus dad, Loyd Williams; two brothers, Julian Williams and Carl Currington; one sister, Mary Hagler. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at New Life Baptist Ministries, 1401 Janes Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Dr. Craig A. Tatum will officiate. Visitation will take place at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
