Deacon Willie L. Murry

Deacon Willie Lee Murry, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, returned home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the age of 74 years. He made a peaceful transition, surrounded by his family and friends, while holding the hand of his daughter. Willie was born February 26, 1945 to Cecil Jones and Muryel Lee Murry in Wisner, Louisiana. He was the firstborn of nine. He met the love of his life, Frances Lee Jenkins, in Gilbert, Louisiana. After courting her for several years, the two married on February 7, 1974 and shared 42 years of marriage before she preceded him in death. The couple moved to Michigan and both worked for the General Motors Corporation. Willie labored 42 years at the Saginaw Malleable Iron before retiring. Deacon Murry was candid enough to tell you he wasn’t always saved, but when he had his encounter with God, he put his hand to the plough and never looked back. He joined Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in 1982 under the leadership of the late Pastor Harold Gates. He first served as an usher for three years, and later became an ordained Deacon in 1985. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board, a Sunday School teacher and served in any capacity that was needed around the church. He loved all of his Christ Fellowship Family but he held a special relationship with Mother Taylor and Pastor Robert Davis, both whom he loved dearly. Deacon Murry was a strong man. A man of principle and integrity. He was a man of faith and a family man. He studied the Word of God daily to show himself approved. He always kept his Bible close by, whether he was at home, work, on the road or in the hospital. Not only did he study the word, but most importantly he lived the word. His teachings and his presence will be missed. But we have not lost him because we know exactly where he is, and that is resting in the arms of his Savior. Well done, good and faithful servant! On Thursday morning of April 18, Willie was met at heaven’s gates by his wife, Frances Lee Murry; parents, Muryel Lee Murry and Cecil Jones; brother, Jerry Jones; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Josephine Jenkins; sisters-in-law, Victoria Turner, Mattie Thomas, Mildred Hollis; brother-in-law, Edmond Jenkins; grandson, Terrance Jenkins. Deacon Murry leaves a lasting legacy with his children, Anthony Jenkins, Shreveport, Louisiana, Willie (CoCo) Murry, Dallas, Texas, Murylee (Chris) Solomon, Jonesboro, Georgia, Marvin (Cynthia) Murry, Waterford, Michigan; grandchildren, Denita, Melvin, Wendell, Nikki, Angela, Cherelle, Frankie, Marquache, Cameron (Brittany), LeAndre, Cara, Darrias, Draylon; siblings, John (Doris) Murry, Saginaw, Michigan, Johnny Ray, Rosemary (Richard) Jones, Lynn Murry, all of Columbia, Tennessee, Nailah Jones, Hampton, Georgia, Jeanette Jackson, Wayne Brown, both of Washington, D.C.; sisters-in-law, Diane (Elijah) Henderson, Gilbert, Louisiana, Alice (Garrett) O’Steen, Monroe, Louisiana; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Sheila) Jenkins, Monroe, Louisiana, Nolan Jenkins, Gilbert, Louisiana, Robert Jenkins, Monroe, Louisiana; sixteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special cousin, Beatrice Brooks and best friends, Malcom and Velma Roach and J.T. and Shirley Jones. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 818 N. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Robert Davis, Jr. will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
