Willie "Peter" Weems

Mr. Willie Frank Weems, lovingly known as “Peter”, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the age of 66 years. He was born on March 29, 1948 in Tuskegee, AL, the son of Louis and Ruby (Cameron) Weems. Mr. Weems was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1966. He was a member of Zion Valley Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from the General Motors Grey Iron Foundry and was a member of UAW Local 668. Peter was an avid fisherman and loved shooting pool. He loved spending time with his family and was a father figure to many in the community. Mr. Weems was a great listener and always gave good advice. He always had a warm smile that he shared with everyone, and he did many acts of kindness from the goodness of his heart. Peter was a great dancer who loved to party and travel and had a passion for living life to the fullest. “He whistled while he worked.” He leaves to cherish precious memories, his wife, Evelyn (Matthews) Weems, two daughters and three sons, John Boyd, Camille Weems, Tony Weems, Andre Weems and Izeta (Winston) Crosby; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his mother, Ruby Weems; seven sisters, Ruby McGee, Annie Kelly, Dorothy (Andrew) Scott, Juanita Weems, Sandra (Daniel) Chaffer, Deborah Weems and Rolonda Walker; two brothers, Louis Weems, Jr. and Ricky Weems, Sr.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; one sister-in-law, Lender Graham; one brother-in-law, Johnny Matthews, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; his beloved dog, Princess; and many other relatives and friends, including special friends, Will Feagin, Al Moultrie, Frank Clement, Sylvia Reed and Val Champion. Peter was preceded in death by his father, Louis Weems, Sr.; granddaughter, Amiracle Crosby; father and mother-in-law, Johnny Matthews, Sr., and Elizabeth Matthews. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Wolverine State Baptist Headquarters, 615 South Jefferson Avenue. Pastor John Rincher will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present for a family hour from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
