Woody Dennis Hooker

Woody Dennis Hooker, 61 of Grand Blanc, MI, went home to glory on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Woody was born on February 6, 1952 in Newellton, LA. He graduated from Newellton High School and continued on to receive an Associate’s degree from Delta College. Woody started as an hourly worker at General Motors - Saginaw Malleable Iron then became a Millwright. He was later elected as a committee man and proceeded to become Chairman of the Local #455 union. He retired after 34 years of service. Woody accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Newellton, LA where he served as a Deacon. Woody later moved to Saginaw, MI where he became a member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He was currently a member of Bethel Apostolic Church in Flint, MI. He was actively involved in the Michigan State Extension Master Gardening Program. Woody was also an avid bowler and golfer. He also enjoyed taking "his" boat out and fishing with his family. Woody leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 39 years, Doretha; his step-mother, Willetta Dabney; two sons, Louis (Trisha) Hooker-Hook, Raymond (Tera) Hooker and one daughter, Wendee Hooker; special niece, Dionnica (Cliff) Gaston; six wonderful grandchildren, Jane' Jacobs, Alexander Hooker (who he raised like his own), Aaron Hooker, Keegan, Tyeson and Cameron Hooker-Hook; four sisters, Maggie "Essie" Moore, Shirley Jones, Gloria Blaine and Cathy (Allen) Warner; special niece, Sharon “Grand” Webster, two brothers, Percy (Doll) Ransome and Joseph Ray (Valorie) Hooker; six step-brothers; two step-sisters; six sisters-in-law, Edna Carr, Lila Walker, Mary (Theodore) Jackson, Shirley (Ernest) Blanche, Ellen (Murphy) Gholston and Anna Turner; three brothers-in law, James Johnson, Orie (Shirley) Johnson and Gary (Ann) Johnson; special god-children, Ariana and Aasha Cochran (mother, Kim Curry); and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends. Woody was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Dabney and Clara Hooker-White; brother, Leonard Hooker; step-father, Freddie White; special brother-in-law, Joseph Jones; special cousin, Harry Hooker; six uncles and seven aunts. Special thanks go to St. Mary’s 6 ICU nurses and medical staff, Dr. Amin and "doctor" Dakima Bridges, FNP. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 3610 Russell Street, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Rev. R. E. Donald, Host Pastor. Pastor Theron Wiggins will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Ave., on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
