Mrs. Addie Mae Owen

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” II Timothy 4:7 Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend peacefully went home to be with God on May 8, 2024, at the age of 98. She was surrounded by her loving children when she transitioned. Mrs. Addie Mae Owen was the third born of 14 children on April 22, 1926, to the late A.D. and Callie Taylor in Brownsville, TN. She married Willie (Bill) Owen in 1941 and through this union ten children were born. Mrs. Addie spent several years in her favorite role of being a mother and a housewife. As a mother, she built a strong moral character in each of her ten children. She taught them to be hard workers, have high integrity by always being honest, and most importantly to love each other. The love that she instilled in her children has passed down through five generations. Mrs. Addie was a great cook and was known for her delicious baked goods and famous homemade ice cream. She also crocheted beautiful dollies that were popular amongst her friends throughout her community. Mrs. Addie was a dedicated member of Jefferson Street Church of Christ under the leadership of Pastor Cecil Jones until she relocated to Michigan. In 1967, Mrs. Addie began working at the Milan Ammunition Plant where she made ammunition for the Vietnam War. Later she accepted a housekeeping position at Haywood Hospital until she retired. Her retirement did not last long though. Mrs. Addie began volunteering at Brownsville Senior Citizen’s Center which turned into a full-time position for 10 years. Mrs. Addie leaves to cherish her memory one daughter; Betty Chappell, four sons; James (Kathy), Ronald Sr., Anthony Sr., and Daniel (Barbara) Owens, two daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Owen and Pamela Coleman-Owens; 35 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren, nine great-great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfred (Ora Lee) Taylor, L.Z. (Emma Taylor) and Earl (Mae) Taylor as well as a host of other family members. Mrs. Addie loved her family and made it a priority to spend time together. She taught her family to love one another, to keep the family together, and to do their best to support one another. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love will live on through her family. Mrs. Addie joined the heavenly gardens with her daughters; Bertha Owens, Callie Mae Taylor, and Gloria Culpepper, sons, Willie D. Owen and Jerry Owens; son-in-law, Albert Chappell; brothers, Tommie, James, Curtis, Willie D. and Rev. Dr. Arthur Taylor; sisters; Leatha, Eddie Sue, Josephine, Celestine and Dora; four grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Although our beloved has transitioned to be with the Lord, her offspring salute her today. Mrs. Addie’s endless prayers, love, and wisdom will be remembered for generations to come. Family hour will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 17, 2024 at South 17th Church of Christ, 516 S. 17th St., Saginaw, MI 48601, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Bro. Cedric Townsel will officiate with Interment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, 7475 E. Holland Rd., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
