Mrs. Adline Helton

August 24, 1924 - March 28, 2021

Mother Adline Helton received her Heavenly Wings on Sunday, March 28, 2021 in Saginaw, Michigan at the blessed age of 96 years. She was born August 25, 1924 to Noah, Sr. and Adline (Demery) Jenkins in Wisner, Louisiana. Mother Helton was a resident of Wisner, LA all of her childhood and part of her adult life. She and her family later moved to Monroe, LA. She confessed her belief in Jesus Christ at an early age. It was in Monroe, LA that she married her childhood sweetheart, Rosevelt Helton, Sr. They were blessed with six children, Mary, Ida, Roosevelt, Jr., Curtis, Juanita and Charles. In June of 1962, the family moved to Saginaw, Michigan where she immediately united with Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.B. Austin. She served faithfully with the Senior Usher Ministry and was the overseer of the Youth Usher Ministry. In 1992, Mother Helton and family united with Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert D. Jones and currently Pastor Otis Washington. She was a devoted member of the Ushers Ministry and a faithful member of the Mothers’ Ministry. Mrs. Helton was a past member of the First Ward Old Timer Club, and part of the Senior Citizen Club at First Ward Community Center. She really enjoyed playing Bingo. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. All of her children, grandchildren, great-grands and great-great-grands knew they were dearly loved. She became a bonus mother to some of her children’s friends. Some would affectionally shower her with gifts of love because of the love that she extended to them. Mother Helton was affectionally called, “Mama” by her children, “Madea” by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and others; she will forever be loved, and live in their hearts. Mother Helton leaves to cherish many memories her children, Mary Turner, Ida Helton, Roosevelt (Yvonne) Helton, Jr., Curtis (Louise) Helton, Sr., Juanita (Darrell) Drake, and Charles (Mary) Helton; grandchildren, Deborah, Reggie (Pam), Chantel (Gary), Curtis Jr. (Jenny), DeMona (Andrew), Korrey, Kenyetta (Andre), Armon, Germaine, Darrell, Jr., Lamar, Louis, Charneka (Marcus), Antwan, LaTosha, LaTrina (Larry), LaTasha and Quintarious (Semariya); several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly and she loved them. She also leaves special friends, Mavis Taylor, Dorothy Lewis, Ann McMillan, Jessie Lyles, Ruth Wilson and Hattie Doxie; a host of bonus children, too numerus to name and a special bonus son, Travis Jones. Mother Adline Helton was preceded in death by her husband, Rosevelt Helton, Sr.; grandchildren, Diane Lynette Turner, Roosevelt Antione Helton III and Reginald Lampkin; great-grandchildren, Dominique Turner and Antionesha Helton; siblings, Wash, Mattie, Joe, Earnest, Katie, Charity, Noah, Naomi, Leonna, Juanita and Letha Mae; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank Pastor Otis Washington and the Messiah Church family, our extended families and friends for their love and support during this time. A special thanks to Elaine Parham, Martina Chapman and Beveline Wilson for helping take care of our mother. We also extend thanks to Commission on Aging and Dr. Kella and staff. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Rd., Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will take place Wednesday, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. April 7, 2021 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607.
