Mr. Alexander "Jr. Farrell" Farrell

April 1, 1937 - April 21, 2022

Mr. Alexander (Alex) Richard Farrell Jr. was called home on Thursday April 21, 2022 surrounded by close loved ones. He was born April 1, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Alexander Richard and Ella (Haley) Farrell, Sr. Alex graduated from Saginaw High School in 1955 where he participated in Track & Field. He went on to attend Delta College, where he earned his Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. Alex married Frances (Sanders) Farrell on November 15, 1963, and they have celebrated 58 years of marriage. He was employed by General Motors Corporation, the former Saginaw Steering Gear Division, where he retired after 37 years as an Assistant Plant Superintendent. Alex was a dedicated member of Glimpse of Hope Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Leslie D. Lewis. As a proud Saginaw High Alumnus, Alex was an avid fan and supporter of the Trojans athletic program where he also served on the Class of 1955 Reunion Committee. During his 31 years in retirement, he enjoyed attending sporting events which included: the 2005 Rose Bowl, the 2006 Super Bowl in Detroit, and the 2007 Final Four in Atlanta. Alex loved watching Track & Field on TV as well as in person. Last summer he was honored to fly “first class” to Jacksonville, FL to watch his grandson, Julian, participate in the United States of America Track & Field Association (USATF) Junior Olympics. Alex also enjoyed watching the history channel, attending family reunions, sharing family history, listening to different genres of music, but was most fond of Jazz. He loved dancing, and thoroughly enjoyed teaching others to master the skill of ballroom dancing. Alex leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Frances; children, Pastor Linda Johnson Thomas, Derrick and Dana Farrell, Rhonda Farrell-Butler, Bryan and (Terry) Farrell, Elder Perry Farrell, Delvin (Earnestine) Williams and DeLance (Eureka) Farrell; grandchildren, Marques (Stacey) Ivey, Shevlin (Nelson) Hughley, Shaneditha (Sha’) and Alliecia (Allie) Butler, Donovan Fleming, Andrew, Terrance (TJ), Gregory Farrell, Elbony (Dwayne) Hawkins, Darian and Madison Farrell, Sharda (Bryan) Smotherman, James and Julian Farrell; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends: Willie (Bud) Butler, Henry Gibbs, Bill Martin, Herman Scott and Robert Henley. Alex was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Williams; son, Daryl Farrell; parents Alexander Richard and Ella Farrell, Sr. and brother, Sougar Lee Amos Sr. The family would like to express a special thanks to, Covenant Hospital, especially 6th Floor Covenant Harrison Staff, Mary Free Bed, Pastor Leslie Lewis, Mattie Johnson and Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home The family requests: Masks are required for all attending the service of Alex Farrell and to please refrain from physical contact (hugs or kisses) Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, May 6, 2022, at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 North 29th Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601, with funeral services commencing at 11:00 AM. Dr. Willie D. Hill, Host Pastor and Pastor Leslie Lewis, officiate. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 3440 South Washington, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until time of service.
