Mr. Andrew J. Williams Jr.

Mr. Andrew Jackson Williams, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the age of 72 years. He was born June 27, 1944 in Clarksdale, MS, the son of Andrew Jackson and Pearline (Walker) Williams, Sr. Andrew was a resident of Saginaw, MI. He accepted Christ, was baptized at an early age and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.B. Austin. It was through church and his parents that he learned to pray and love the Lord. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High School “Class of 1962”. He participated in school sports and especially loved football until he broke his collarbone during a practice game. Andrew was employed by General Motors and worked at the Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry until retirement. Andrew was a great family man, he loved his children and grandchildren, loved guiding them and showing them that laughter was the best medicine. He was an active school parent with his children and grandchildren. With his cousins, friends, and being the eldest sibling, Andrew loved recounting and passing down the jokes and stories of growing up a “Williams child”. He fondly recalled family activities such as attending the baptizing on the river off the Veterans Memorial Highway, attending church all day on Sunday and sometimes twice during the week, Wenonah Beach and going fishing. He was a big jokester and gave a few of his sisters and brothers their family nick-names and his was “Super Andy”. Traveling to Chicago, IL and Clarksdale, MS with his parents was an annual summer highlight for fun and learning of his early childhood past and life in MS Delta. On one of those trips, he met and thanked the midwife who delivered him. Andrew also loved a good card game, libations and socializing with his family and best friends. Mr. Williams leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Virgil Williams, Saginaw, MI; children, Tina Mitchell and Algray Williams, both of Saginaw, MI; step-children, Victoria Packard, June Packard and Tracey Packard, all of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Andrea Clark, Lashaun Washington and Antonio Ballard, all of Atlanta, GA, Steven Packard, Jayon Packard, Drevon Thomas, Tatyana Packard and Travoy Morris, all of Saginaw, MI; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Gregory) Harvin and Linda “Cookey” Williams, both of Saginaw, MI; brother, Johnny (Penny) Williams, Saginaw, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins many other relatives and friends, including special friends, Charles Clemons, Sr., Freddy Johnson, Larry Packard, George Redeemer and Chris Falls. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Pearline Williams, Sr.; former wife, Ruby Caviness; daughter, Andrea Williams; sister, Margaret Euell; brother, Larry Williams; niece, Fayleta Williams; nephews, Chaka Euell and Richard Williams. As we celebrate his life and transition, we miss his presense and will cherish his memory. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue. Pastor Alfred Harris, Jr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
