March 9, 1933 - July 4, 2020
Mrs. Angelyn Harris, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the age of 87 years after a lengthy illness. A proud Native American Indian, Angelyn was born March 9, 1933 to Ms. Rose Welch in Yuma, Arizona and spent her first year living on the reservation. She belonged to the Fort Yuma Quechan Indian Tribe. At the age of three she was lovingly adopted by Paul and Geneva Hamilton (her 2nd cousin), and was brought to Saginaw, MI by her beloved Uncle Frank, where she remained until her passing. Angelyn accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a lifelong member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Saginaw, MI where she enjoyed singing in the Gospel Choir until her declining health limited her church attendance. One thing was certain – her faith remained strong to the very end. She would always ask “Did you say your prayers?” and “Don’t pick up any strangers.” “Angie” as she was affectionately called, attended Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High School “Class of 1950”. She was an inquisitive, cheerful and hospitable person, full of life. She genuinely loved people and through the years had many friends. Her infectious smile and hearty laughter filled every room she entered. She enjoyed traveling and never missed the opportunity to take a trip to new places. Angie was an expert cook, and showcased her culinary skills through a long career in food services. She was employed as a cook by Trinity Lutheran School, Carrollton School District and Savoy Bar & Grill. Throughout her family, she was known for her delicious meals – especially her amazing taco’s, which she always served with love. Angie’s greatest joy in life was her family. Shae was a dedicated mother, a strong supporter, an amazing encourager and a wise listening ear for both family and friends alike. Born to her marriages were three sons and one daughter. Angie leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Peter (Arlinda) Welch of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Elizabeth (Leon) McKinney of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, April (Ricardo Jr.) Garcia of Carrollton, MI, Porsha Webb of Sterling Heights, MI, George E. (Esther) Jones IV of Las Vegas, NV, Kimberly Jones of Ann Arbor, MI, Antwan Weathers, Paul Jones of Bay City, MI and Mercy Rose Jones of Baton Rouge, LA; great-grandchildren, Zipporah Cousin, Gabriel, Angel and George E. Jones V of Las Vegas, NV, Kaylah Richey, Alexander, Brian and Daniel Walker of Ann Arbor, MI, Ricardo III, Alena and Edward Garcia of Carrollton, MI; nephew, Alonzo Wrenn, Jr.; a host of great-nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends, including special cousin/daughter-in-love, Rev. Gwendolyn (Jerry) Hatter of Ypsilanti, MI and daughter-in-love, Mercies Jones of Saginaw, MI. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her sons, George E.
