Mrs. Annie Loris Jackson
December 15, 1932 - January 4, 2022
Mrs. Annie Loris Jackson departed this earthly life on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the age of 89 years. Annie was born December 15, 1932 in Luverne, Alabama the daughter of Gextra and Annie (Salter) Pratt. She married the love of her life, Roosevelt Jackson on January 29, 1948, who preceded her in death. To this union were born six children, Ethel Lanette Jackson-Jones, James Leon Jackson, Honorable Darnell Jackson, Delta Jean Jackson-Hawkins, Kimberly Fay Jackson-Woodley and Kernef Darcel (Jackie A.) Jackson, all of Saginaw, Michigan. Annie had 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Annie also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Martha Jean Jones and Dorothy Susberry, both of Chicago, Illinois. Annie loved her God, her family and her friends in that order. She had a quick wit and a no-nonsense approach to life. She was nurturing, out-going and had a smile that lit up the room. Annie loved to travel and spend time with her loved ones, especially the yearly summer trips to Chicago to visit extended family, and the annual Jackson Family Reunions. She was a faithful member of Bethel AME church for over 60 years where she sang in the Gospel Chorus and was lead singer on many songs. Many times when she finished singing there wasn’t a dry eye in the church and the pastor would have to compose himself before preaching. One of her great joys in life was cooking and she was very good at it; so much so, that people would put in special requests for some of her homemade chicken and dumplings, sweet potato pie and banana pudding. The most awesome part about her cooking is that she did so for the most part without a recipe. Annie knew the ingredients knew how much she should use and knew how long to cook it, but very seldom had anything written down. It was jokingly said that she could take a rock, some water and some salt and make the best soup you ever tasted. Annie worked 40 plus years at Tony’s Restaurant on W. Genesee, and later Fashion Square Blvd. in Saginaw, touching many lives and dispensing wisdom and love to generations of customers. She was the Boss of the restaurant and the owners gladly allowed her to do so as it made their jobs so much easier. Annie knew how to make people feel special and was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Annie was preceded in death by daughter, Ethel Lanette Jackson-Jones; grandson, Eric D. Jones; great-grandson, Andre Jones; great-granddaughter, Aiiesha T. Woodley; loving parents, Gextra and Annie (Salter) Pratt; brothers, Waverly, Charles Rudolph, Walter and Raymond Pratt and sister, Claire McKenzie. Annie’s family would like to give a special thanks to the Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Center staff and Dr. Claudia Zacharek for their care and love they provided to her these past few years. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Dennis Laffoon will officiate. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
