Charles Bovan, Jr., passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021 at Detroit Receiving Hospital, Detroit, Michigan at the age of 89 years. Charles Bovan is survived by his son, Charles Bovan III; daughter-in-law, Sarah Bovan; granddaughter, Amaris Bovan; his sister, Lana Bovan. Charles Bovan was born on December 3, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee to the parents of Charles and Irene Bovan. He graduated from Michigan State University in Lansing, MI with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He went on to play in the National Football League for the Dallas Texans (now Kansas City Chiefs). Afterwards, he moved to Saginaw, Michigan and accepted an engineering position at General Motors, where he worked for more than 26 years. Upon retiring from General Motors he started his own business, Advanced Building Maintenance and after a successful run, retired from this business to pursue other passions. Charles Bovan lived a full life. He mentored others, assisted many in finding jobs and set an example by pursuing his passions throughout life. He was actively involved in his church through teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. He enjoyed playing sports, umpiring high school and college athletics, and working out. His family and friends will always remember him as one who tried to treat people as he would want to be treated. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bovan and mother, Irene Bovan. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Mike Hanafee will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Visitation 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
