Mr. Charley Monroe
March 11, 1937 - March 16, 2022
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, was called home be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Samaritas Senior Living of Saginaw at the age of 85 years. He was born March 11, 1937 in Portland, Arkansas the son of Theodore, Sr. and Charlotte Monroe. He moved from Wolf Island, Missouri to Saginaw, Michigan in 1966. He was a member of Freewill Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board. Mr. Monroe was employed at General Motors for six years, Kucher’s Service Station as Mechanic, and Gas Station Attendant, Clark’s Service Stations (Genesee and Washington locations). He was one of the main mechanics at TNT Garage. He loved fishing, traveling south and spending time with family. His memory will be cherished by the love of his life, devoted wife of 19 years Velvia AKA (Pickey) Sanders-Monroe; two sons, Lance Monroe, Atlanta, GA, David Monroe, Hopkinsville, KY; daughter, Shirley (Monroe) Rankin, Clarksville, TN; three stepdaughters, Shirt Etta Jacobs, Atlanta, GA, Teresa Sanders and Lenore (Scott) Tabit all of Saginaw, MI; one brother, Larry (Pamela) Monroe; two sisters, Geraldine (Moty) McKinney and Alberta Jackson all of Saginaw, MI; a special granddaughter and caregiver, Charmaine Gonzales; a host of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Charley was preceded in death by three sons, Linnie Lee, Jeff and James Monroe and their mother, Luella (Stevenson) Monroe; his parents, Theodore, Sr. and Charlotte Monroe; four brothers; four sisters, four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law and other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Samaritas Senior Living, Charmaine Gonzales, Alonzo Betts and Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home and the many families and friends for their support. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
