Charlie Frank Bassette was called to his heavenly home on Sunday evening February 7, 2021 surrounded by his family. Charlie Frank was affectionally known as Jack by his friends and Pop or Granddaddy by his family. Jack was the only child, he was born on December 22, 1929 to Emma Jones and Frank Bassett in Belzoni, Mississippi. He passed away at the age of 91 years. Jack accepted Jesus Christ in his life at an early age. He was a loud, but gentle giant. Jack was willing to lend a helping hand when needed, he never wanted to see anyone go hungry. Jack joined the United States Army in 1951 where he stayed until 1953, he was a Korean War Veteran. Some of his favorite things included traveling, celebrating Thanksgiving, and enjoying Christmas meals with his family. Jack also loved playing bingo and going to the casino. Recently Jack joined the online community by utilizing Facebook and playing his favorite games online. Jack leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Charlie Bassett, Jr.; a stepson, John (Marchelle) Parker of Bay City, MI; daughter-in-law, Mary Griffin of Saginaw, MI whom he loved with all his heart and treated like his very own daughter; grandchildren, Karen Lowery of Bay City, MI; Christopher (Hiroko) Griffin of Simpsonville, SC, Vanessa (Jerome) Rogers of Saginaw, MI, Versia (Dennis) Griffin-Baker of Bay City, MI; great-grandchildren, Orentheus and Myra Lowery, William, Jay and Dante Griffin, Charles Montel Griffin, Junior, Yalonda, Denitra, James Brinson and Jomar Griffin; four great-great-grandchildren, Octayveus, Omarreyon and Eliza Lowery, and Jaraiya Cater. Jack leaves a host of close friends and family including special friends Willie McClain, Tracy McCoy, Sharchel Boynton, and Kathy Humes who raised Charlie, Jr. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Jones and Frank Basette; his son, Cary Griffin; grandson, Douglas Martin Lowery; great-grandson, Reginal (Reggie) Griffin. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Marcelle T. Smith, Reverend John L. Davis. The nurses at DaVita Dialysis and McLaren Bay Regional Hospital Critical Care Unit, The Historic Second Baptist Church Family. The family would also like to thank the Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor John Davis will officiate with interment in Elm Lawn Cemetery, 300 Ridge Rd., Bay City, Michigan 48708. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
