February 28, 1957 - May 10, 2022
Dennis Leroy Allen, Sr. was born on Thursday, February 28, 1957 in Saginaw, Michigan as the son of Sam LeRoy and Freddie Lee Allen. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the age of 65 years. Mr. Dennis Allen resided in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the youngest of ten children, yet the first born of a set of twins. He was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1975, an entrepreneur of “Bags of Bones Restaurant”, a janitorial service and a luxury transportation service. His first job was with Browne’s Mortuary and his last job was with Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home, and like many Northerners, he spent some time employed with General Motors. In his lifetime, he lived in Texas, Washington, Mississippi and Colorado. He became an Ordained Baptist Minister while residing in Texas. He enjoyed hanging with the “Fellas” which consisted of approximately thirteen native men of the Saginaw area, watching basketball games, listening to the oldies, gospel music and attending concerts. Dennis read his bible, enjoyed BBQing, cooking, and raising and spending time with his children. His characteristics will always be remembered; there aren’t enough words to truly describe Dennis. He was a man that provided each individual with a different experience rather it be a laugh, a cry or a thought, you always knew when you’d encountered his distinctive spirit. He lived his life with the intention of obeying the Lord’s Will and being able to hear that he was a good and faithful servant before the Lord. Dennis loved his children with everything in him. Through the years, he gained a new perspective of life and what it meant to love outside of himself with his kids. He had a heart for the ones he cared about and always wanted to keep their stomachs full as an expression of his love. He could be a character that was funny, outgoing and extremely expressive in anything he did. He leaves to cherish many memories, a daughter, Jillian Denise Allen, Nashville, TN; a son, Dennis LeRoy Allen II, Dallas, TX; the mother of his children and former wife, Jill Malone; significant friend, Sandra Avery; sisters, Mary Etta Lowery, Clarietha “Brandy” Allen, Carolyn Turner and Patricia Allen; twin brother, Duane Allen; ten nieces, 11 nephews; a host of many great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of cousins throughout the United States; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Sheldon “Snap” Matthews, Marvin Surles, Mark Patterson, Eddie “Bebe” Sanders, Alonzo “Doc” Betts, and All of The Fellas. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his father, Sam LeRoy Allen; mother, Freddie Lee Hall-Allen; brothers, Benjamin Tyron and Joseph Allen; sisters, Linda Logan and Sandra Allen. The family would like to express special thanks to Jill Malone-Allen and family, Sandra Avery and family, “All of The Fellas” in their Saginaw Brotherhood, McClaren Hospital Flint, Covenant Healthcare-Cooper Saginaw, 7th floor ICU Nurses, the McNally House, Lawrence E.
