Hosea 6:1 On Wednesday, January 12, 2022 our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend left the earthly realm and was welcomed into the gates of heaven. Georgia Lee Hemphill was born November 9, 1947 in Itta Bena, Mississippi to Leo and Florida Laury. At an early age, the family relocated to Saginaw, Michigan. She ultimately was raised by her aunt and uncle, Walter and Artia Laury. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a long-time, faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1966. It was in that same year, three days after her graduation that she married her husband of 55 years, Leo Hemphill who survives her. Not only was she an amazing wife, but an extraordinary mother to three daughters, Tammie Hemphill, Tosha Hemphill and Monique (James) Magee. She was rarely seen without her grandchildren whom she loved and spoiled without fail, Arieana, Shaniya and Shaylin Hemphill and Peyton Magee. She was devoted not only to her family but also to her walk with God. She was involved in many ministries at Bethel A.M.E. including the Bowman Gospel Chorus, Steward Board, Stewardess Board. Class Leader and Cup of Water Committee. She loved to cook and often shared those talents with extended family and friends. Aside from her husband, children and grandchildren, she leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, Elston (Yvonne) Laury, San Franciso, CA and Darnell (Linda) Laury, Tyler, TX; one sister, Marion Donald, Saginaw, MI; sisters-in-law, Mary (Cleophus) Greene and Stelvia Ann Hemphill, both of Tuscaloosa, AL; brothers-in-law, Ivory Hemphill, Columbia, SC and Marvin (Peanut) Hemphill, Tuscaloosa, AL; goddaughter, Melissa Echols, Redford, MI; many nieces including special niece, Artia Layton; nephews, cousins and friends. Also left to cherish her memory are special friends, Leslie Echols, Marilyn Buggs, Jeanette Clark, Delores Wiliams and the Mahogany Social Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leo Laury, Jr.; sisters, Delaine Layton, Cleo Laury Bennett, Linda Hightower and Gloria “Penny” West and a nephew, Darryl “Red” Hemphill. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nicole and Christine from Promedica Hospice for the phenomenal care they have provided to our loved one. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 21, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Dennis Laffoon will officiate with interment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens 7475 Holland, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
