Mr. Hurley Riley

May 10, 1950 - March 16, 2022

Our beloved Hurley Riley departed this life on Wednesday March 16, 2022 after a short illness at the age of 71 years. He was born May 10, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan, the second oldest of Armenta (Key) Byas’ nine children. Hurley had been employed at Saginaw Steering Gear GM. He loved being around people, strategizing the game of Dominoes, playing Bid Whist, and his passion was fishing. He also enjoyed cooking, and found joy when he would invite his family and friends to stop by and get a taste. Hurley was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and enjoyed visiting and talking with his friend, Pastor Willie R. Hill, Jr. Hurley’s sense of humor and laughter will forever be cherished by his sons, Hurley Riley II and Martel Riley; two granddaughters, Chyna and Asia; three grandsons, Amari Riley, Hurley Riley III and Marquavion Givens. He also leaves stepchildren, Shun and James Shivers, Eddie Shedrick and Latreece Taylor; five devoted sisters, Nedra Ann Williams, Jaclyn E. Riley, Priscille Craig, Vivian Guillory and Johnnie LaCresha (Chester) Grant; one brother, Tommie Earl Byas; a special sister-in-law, Carolyn Wilkins; nieces and nephews, Larisa, Sheryl, Daryl and Denisa Riley, Terra Watson, Vera, Clover, Jr. and Terrence Riley, Ashely (Vandy) Griffith, Billy Jones, Ebony Davis, Ashley Craig,Robin (Jordan) Paul, Candice Noel, Robert Layton and Johnny (Natasha) Layton; a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins and loving family members; also to mourn his passing, dear friends, Leon Gibson, Willie Harvey, Larry Mackie, Dan Martin, Jimmie Owens, Tim Payton, Frazier Townsend, Ricky Whitley, Abe Martin and family (Lil Monyea Haynes) and Pastor Willie R. Hill, Jr. Hurley was pre-ceded in death by his parents, Armenta and Johnnie Byas and Frank Guillory; a son, Lavell Riley; siblings, Lilly Faye, Edward and Clover B. Riley, Sr.; one loving niece, Armenta “Poochie” Riley and two brothers-in-law, Robert Williams, Jr. and Ernest Brian Craig. The family wishes to thank Willie Lee and Carrie Whitley, Pastor Willie (Martha) Hill, Jr. and the Mt. Nebo family for your kindness and prayers; Jerri & West Chester Village, Covenant Cooper and staff. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 North 29th Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Willie Hill, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
