J. Watson

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Truevine Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, where the family will be present at 6:00 p.m. for the Family Hour. Mr. J. D.Watson, loving husband, step-father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away to his heavenly home with Jesus, on Friday morning, September 19, 2008 at Heartland Health Care at the age of 85 years. He was born in Crockett County, TN on March 8, 1923 to DeHart Watson and Millie Green. Mr. Watson loved the Lord and confessed to Christ at a very early age. He was a member of 6th Street Baptist Church in Humboldt, TN where he met his wife of 44 wonderful years. Mr. Watson loved to sing and was bass singer for the Four Star Quartet while in Tennessee. He married Lillie C. Flournoy on November 22, 1964 and showed unconditional love for her to the end of this union. She survives him along with five step-children, Rev. Lawrence (Emma) Lanier of Jackson, TN, Major (Anna) Flournoy, Gloria (Preston) Mason, J. Herbert Flournoy and Athen (Margery) Flournoy, all of Saginaw, MI; 12 grandchildren (one of whom he helped raise from age five), Barbara Flournoy-Heard; 20 great-grandchildren; special cousin, Frank Thomas of Jackson, TN; one sister-in-law, Juanita Triggs and one brother-in-law, James Franklin Triggs of Chicago, IL. J. D. and Lillie C. Watson moved to Saginaw in 1974 and joined Truevine Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. B. Corley, Sr. They were faithful members of the senior choir until their health failed. Mr. Watson loved his family and really liked working in his yard and garden. He will be joyfully remembered for his pride in his strong bass voice when singing. He was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Louise; a step-son, Joe Westley Flournoy; two step-daughters, Peggy Flournoy-Cooper and Rosette Flournoy-Larry. The family wishes to express gratitude for the many acts of kindness shown during their time of bereavement. A special thanks to Care Providers, Debbie Nutt, George Jewell and Kevin Bentley, the ICU Teams of the 6th and 7th floors at St Mary's of Michigan Medical Center and Hospice of Michigan.
